Painless buying experience

We requested quotes one night through Edmunds from four nearby Toyota dealers, for a couple of flavors of a new Prius. By mid-morning we had responses from all four dealers. Sunnyvale and two others quoted prices via email; the fourth suggested we call to clarify options etc. (and turned out to be lowest). Incidentally the range of quotes for the option package we were most interested in was wider than I'd expected. It pays to get several quotes! Sunnyvale Toyota's quote was second-lowest, a bit less than the average. Ryan in direct sales gave us a follow-up phone call and when I said theirs was not the best price, he offered a compromise. Still not the lowest, but good -- and since they were more convenient for us, we accepted the revised quote, and made an appointment to come in the next afternoon. The rest of the buying process was painless. Service plans and extended warranty were offered but not pushed excessively, and the price was what we'd agreed on the phone. All the people we spoke with seemed friendly. No experience yet with the service department.
