My 2004 Dodge Intrepid needed the water pump replaced, a big job that requires extensive work just to get to the pump, and careful work to be sure the cam timing does not get messed up. My local mechanic decided that he wasn't up to the job and suggested the dealer do it. Steven's Creek Chrysler did the job, but it was expensive. However, Steven's Creek Chrysler not only replaced the water pump, they also replaced the camshaft drive chain. The drive chain was due to be replaced in about 5,000 miles, and it would have required the same extensive work to get to the drive chain as to the water pump. The dealer could have just fixed the pump, and called me back to get the drive chain replaced in a few months. As it was, they fixed both while they had the engine open and available.
