This was my second experience in buying a used van from a dealership, and I ended up making the largest purchase I've ever made in my adult life. We needed a van in which to transport two electric wheelchairs. We had been vacillating between the two primary options we saw: 1) Purchasing something *very* used, on Craigslist, for next-to-nothing, which would either require a lot of $ spent on repairs (in an unpredictable fashion), or would only last two or three years, or 2) Going through a dealership, and spending 5 to 7x as much, but getting something that would last ten, fifteen, even twenty years. One deciding factor was receiving a letter of pre-approval from our bank, towards a car loan with this dealership. With that in hand, we went to their (well-organized, and very informative) website, and researched all of the used vans they had in the category that would meet our needs. We determined the one that was most likely to fit our needs, *and* the one that was most economical (they were not the same one). Then we contacted the dealership and determined a good time to come in to view our options, and to confirm our pre-approval. The salesmen we dealt with (and there were several, as we came in near a shift change, and had very specialized needs) were *all* friendly, courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. We were clear about what we could and could not afford, and why. The salesman in concert with his Manager, reviewed our pre-approval, and were able to direct us towards the van they believed would best meet our needs, functionally and financially. It was the one *we'd* determined was best! (The slightly more expensive one.) We vacillated some more, because we were uncertain of our ability to comfortably meet the payments for it. The salesman and manager, and then the Financial Officer, were able to assuage our fears and concerns, *comfortably and safely*, and through their hard work and compassion, we were all able to come to an agreement that was within our safety levels! And in addition, they were able to address other concerns we had, and solve other problems we had! I don't have the proper words for my level of gratitude towards *everyone* at this dealership who was involved in helping us to complete the purchase of our van. In the week since we purchased it, it's already exceeding our hopes for it. We couldn't be happier! I wish there were a way for us to provide contact information in this post (it's against forum rules), because we would be *thrilled* to give a personal reference for anyone considering doing business with this dealership. If you choose to do business with Honda of Oakland, you *will* be pleased and satisfied with the help and service you receive. Safe, friendly, kind, courteous, knowledgeable. Everything you could ask for.
