Buying a car is no fun!

At first, I thought this whole car-buying thing was going to be a breeze and a happy, stress-free happening by the way it started but it turned into a stressful situation due to the games I think certain slimey sales guys can't seem to help themselves from doing. (I must say, though, not all sales guys are alike. Here's what happened... My husband first went in to have a look at the Civics for our daughter. He dealt with Moe, which was great! There was no pressure; he was relaxed, patient, helpful and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend working with him or a fellow by the name of BJ (Bijon) - same temperament and disposition. To educate myself on the car, it's options, and pricing, I started doing research on the Internet using Edmunds (very helpful!) I asked for a quote over the Internet for a Civic LX, which I received via email. Once I received it, I was not in agreement and countered with what I would pay. I received an email back saying they would agree to my price for the exact car I wanted. Great!!! Easy, right? Oh no. What I didn't know is that now the games really started... I received a phone call from the Internet sales guy, Adam, who confirmed I'd be in to sign papers, etc. But, wait, on the way to the dealership I got a call from him telling me that he didn't have the exact car in stock and I would have to pay an extra $500 for a transit fee. WHAT?!? I was on the way there and couldn't do any research about that so now the scramble to find out if this was a valid fee (which it WASN'T!) was on. Fortunately, I called my husband and he was able to locate the car we wanted at Tracy Honda for the exact same price as we were quoted. Now I had leverage! Unfortunately, since I do NOT negotiate for a living this is a highly stressful situation for the commoner so being highly agitated and p.o'd, I called Adam back and called off the deal. He tried his little tricks like, "we have built a relationship and I should work with them", etc. Give me a break, relationship?, over the little amount of time spent? Finally, he asked what would it take to keep my business? Three words... Honor Your Quote! Of course, he had to "ask" for his manager's approval, which he got. So, I completed the deal but not without grief, agitation and loathing. Oh, and I also told him that we had been working with Moe first but just fell into the Internet sales so he was aware there was another sales guy involved but when confronted in front of Moe, Adam acted dumb. Yuck! Slimey! So, final words... If you're going to Livermore Honda, work with Moe or Bijon... and do yourself a big favor by steering clear of Internet Sales (Adam!)
