Me and my wife (mid 30s) just moved to the US and we had no US credit history at all. Nothiing from our home country would do. We couldn't apply for a Target credit card, not to mention be preapproved for credit online. Looking at car sites online and buying guides, we figure we had to finance a car, in order to build history. We could buy a small car cash, but since we had to finance, we opted for a brand new Infiniti FX 35. With 20% downpayment, with our payment stub etc., we figure we would have a chance. We were pleasantly surprised by the attention we had. The saleswoman was very knowledgeble and answered patiently like 5-7 e-mails with detailed questions before I set foot on the dealership. We test drove 3 different cars total, all FXs, with 5 rides between my wife and me (when my wife discovered the sport suspension was too hard for her). I was giving a quote, didn't like it, gave a better quote that I printed from another dealer (e-mail), got a tech package for less than edmunds.com price. Needless to say, we were approved, take the car home the very same day after my wife had a tn almost two hour course on the navigation, bluetooth and all the gadgets (saving me a lot of time). About 4-5 days later, when we're back to sign the contract, we heard they get an even lower rate and were giving it to us. Granted, it was a high rate to begin with, but our credit score with one year history wouldn't allow those crazy deals we see on newspaper.
