Did I get a fair deal?
by cjackson2 on Sat Feb 16 03:45:07 PST 2008
OK. nobody jump on me for putting alot down. I know the risks and it was imprtant for me to stay within a monthly budget. Anyway, do you think I got a fair deal? I just leased a 2008 CTS with a window sticker of $39685, I put $4500 down, 10K/mi/yr, 39 mo., for $397 mo. which icludes tax at 7%, I qualify for friends and family discount. Originally I thought it seemed like a fair deal and I ran the numbers thru a lease calculator using 63% risidual value and .00254 MFand the numbers were real close. However, when I study my lease agreement they used alot of fuzzy math to come up with the same number. BTW, the car is awesome. I just hope I got a reasonable deal. Thanks!....CJ

"jhyoo - Over the weekend I got .057 money factor" do you mean 5.7%? GM normally quote interest rate not money factor.. A money factor of 0.057 translate to 13.68% of interest.. It is way too much.. The 69% residual is very good number. I leased an 07 G35 in May and the residual was 66% for 2 yrs/12K mi.. So GM is thinking highley of CTS at this point which make leasing a CTS a good proposition. And if it is a 5.7% interest, it make the car a lease bargain..

There is definitely something really screwy in your number. You didn't mention how tax is handled in the state that you live in. Without tax, the lease payment should be around 636 a month assuming that you pay MSRP and your upfront downpayment pay for the vechicle license, acquisition cost etc. The best way to get a better deal is to negotiate with more than one dealer and the residual they quoted you is screwy. I don't know if GM even offer 18K mi/year lease, but the residual would not be the same as 15K mi... May be you can insist on getting a break down on cap cost, interest rate (which you already have), residual (which you have) and additional fee (some document fee and acquisition cost is legit.. but other may not be legit).. Try using this calculator to play around with the number that you get from one or more dealer... http://www.leaseguide.com/calc.htm

Got the 2004 V8, AWD, Rear seat DVD system, 3rd row seat, ultra sun roof. Price is $42K (includes about $3000 for customs tax, and shipping), actual price $39,000. The car is new with 6 mi on the odo.   The dealer was excellent. Sent me alone with my wife for the prepurchase test drive, I returned it after an hour, and no complains.   Love, it, really nice. built 3/04. Were there any recalls???

Quick Help Needed

I am buying an SRX, will be at the dealer showroom Saturday to finalize. I am so confused which one should I take, a 2005 V6 RWD or 2004 V8 AWD. I would have loved ot take a RWD V8, but this option is not availabel at all.   Both cars are brand new and similarly equiped (includeng the ultra view roof, StabilitTrack and Magna ride), the 2004 has the rear DVD player In addition. $42,600 for the V8 and 44,200 for the 05 V6. But the 04 model is offered with 3% financing compared to 7% for the '05. ('05 V8 not available here yet and not for some months)   I have test driven both, and the V6 felt softer and more responsive, Is this due to the RWD being more nimble than the AWD? Another surprise was the instant fuel consumption of the V6 was reading 11 L/100 km at 60 Mi cruise, while the V8 read 9 L/100 km at the same cruise speed???   Finally does any one had, or expects a problem with the AWD system. I am really concedrned that AWD drive won't age niceliy say at 100,000 mi, while the RWD will age much better.   Any one knows of horror storied concerning the AWD system.   I have 2003 CTS and I love it.   Thanks
