This qualified me for .09% rate. Va tax is 3% came out to be less than $1800. the new shipment 535i has increased in price, euro/dollar, gas increase, etc. So I searched for 535i with non sport package thats been sitting on the dealerships for a bit around my area and tried to make deals and ended up with this. I am very pleased with this decision. Back in the day I used to own w210 E55 and I like the new 535i much better.

[ubu]: by dhanley on Tue Jun 10 12:55:58 PDT 2008; Illinois doesn't charge yearly property tax on a car ( how awful!) but you do pay tax on the who purchase price of the lease car.. There is an extra chicago sales tax, and a special car and lease tax in the city of chicago too, so you're shelling out more than 10% of the purchase price up front. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sales_taxes_in_the_United_States#Illinois I may wait to get the next car until i get that hideaway in wisconsin, and i can register it there. :)

I bought a 2008 335i Convertible through the military overseas sales program. So, I would be exempt from the property tax as long as I am active duty. Thanks again.

Then, annually, you have to pay personal prop tax: Pay 5% on the assessed value of the car minus $20k each year. E.g. if your car is worth $35,000, you pay 5% * $15,000 = $750 for the year. Buying in VA is the same, but at least you get the whole car for which you are taxed. I live in VA so I have to live with it. Perhaps it's better in IL.
