Buying a car from a BMW Car Dealer
I just wanted to give everyone an update on my experience in Virginia. I have a 2007 BMW 530xi coming off lease in the next month or so. Although I was happy with my car, I was looking to upgrade. I was really just looking to get another one but there was a 2009 750 loaded and on the lot. The dealership was ready to deal. It was fully loaded for an MSRP of 96,000. They were willing to take 4000 off sticker, plus 3000 off loyalty for a lease, so I was basically getting the car at invoice. I though long and hard, even drove it for a few days, and it is as advertised and then some. However, though the lease rates seemed OK, the residual was 47%, and it still added up to $1568/month. The bottom line was I found it hard to justify leasing a car with that much depreciation. I have always felt that the 5 series was the perfect balance between the 3-series (too small) and the 7-series (too big), as well as making more sense if the cost to benefit ratio. I finally settled on the 550. Mark1234
Bribor, that sounds OK...from what I have been reading, the best most people have been able to negotiate is about $500 over invoice (roughly $2000 under MSRP when you factor in advertising fees, training costs, etc.). BMW is subsidizing the cost of the automatic transmission to dealers on 08 3 series, so you should not consider that as part of the cost of the vehicle on a 2008. I have it on pretty good authority that the MF for a 09 3 series sedan will jump to 0.00175 but the big hit is on the residual which is declining 3% (to 57% from 60% on a 36 month, 15k miles/year lease). That will make about a $55 a month payment difference on a ~$40k car compared to December. I am not sure about the other rates, but I would imagine similar changes would be in effect.
Thanks. We had to get before the end of the year. Even otherwise I doubt we would have gone for 570 - not sure about the new exterior - especially - Rear . Also, we are going to keep the 470 . We stayed with the 20s. Noise might not be a big issue with Radio on and yes Ride is spirited . For us it is refreshingly different from LX. Between the two we seem to cover Luxury to Sport rides. X5 is fun to drive. No Active Steering . Did not drive one with, not sure how it assists. No Ventilated seats either. Other than these two - pretty much got all the options. One simple Difference in driving between X5 and LX - I found myself maneuvering even the smaller pot holes on the road with X5 which I would have gone over with the LX. Basically, with LX you drive straight and with X5 you look for a turn. Head Up display is probably one of the last options I was looking for. Only Ventilated seats and Active steering ranked below HD. Yes, you can turn it off. We went through an extensive search process - narrowed down to : RangeRover - Didn't have the courage considering Reliability and the company up for sale. Probably the best looking interior of all the SUVs we considered. We have been told that reliability is considerably better now with Jaguar engine. ML500 - OK, but does not stand out in any of the categories. Cayenne S - This came in close second. After considering interior, exterior and options we chose X5. Something about Cayenne - we got strong opinions either way. No middle ground. X5 maintenance program is nice.
Good for you! Good luck! We also test drove the M35 and preferred the 5-series. Just everything about it but especially the driving experience. Test drive it...you will be pleased. I thought the Infiniti was OK, but felt sorta like a hopped up Buick with big tires. My wife was not a fan of the interior and we didnt want all the chrome. The cool automatic shifter in the 5-series sells itself! hahaha
Here's my deal: 04 BMW X3 3.0i w/ every option but heated seats and heated wheel - ie - Premium & Sport, air, auto, 18" alloys, big moonpie roof, Nav, leather, Xenons, parking detectors, premium sound, etc in "silbergrau" anthrocite/grey leather w/aluminum trim and only 12700 miles. Mint condition - only one pin-hole (gravel) in front bumper near grill. Dealer ask was 34,991. My firm offer was $32K flat - cash. He countered at $32,690. I walked (headed for the exit door - he said split the dif, so I said: do U mean $32,300? He said YES and I said write it! MSRP on original sticker was $49,430. Low milage was dealer employee (techie) who traveled by airplane. Car spent last two years at airport parking. HAHAHAHAHAHAH! I ran Edmunds at 38,495 for my locale, and he ran kbb at 40K why he took 32300 is beyond me. Oh - he was a VW dealer! Wife and I love it - tired from detailing it all day today. I think I did OK, bought on implulse - starting looking for a Forrester/CRV or Rav4 in low 20's. Couldn't resist - am I ok? edited typo MSRP price to $49,430. (almost NEW!!!)
