Buying a car from a BMW Car Dealer
Have any new body style CTS-Vs gone through galves lately? What are those going for? What's Gavles say about my wife's 2007 BMW X3 (Montego Blue, Black Leatherette, Rear Privacy Glass, Steptronic, Heated Front Seats, 45K miles) that we returned about a month ago? The buyout according to our lease was $26K & change. IIRC, the dealer offered to sell it to us for $21,600, but then wanted an additional $2995 to CPO it + tax. I figured (my own guesstimation) the auction value (what they could buy it from BMWFS for) is somewhere in the high $18K to mid $19K range.
A manual transmission market here in the US as there are still manufacturers that offer true stick shifts w/ a clutch: Acura (tsx & tlshawd), Audi (a3,a4,s4,tt,r8), BMW (1,3,5,z4,x3), Honda (accord 4cyl & civic), Volkswagen (jetta, passat, golf, gti), Ford (fusion 4cyl, focus, mustang), Nissan (370z, Altima, versa), Infiniti (g37)... That's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
I was negotiating a 2010 fully loaded 328xi with a bunch of dealers. One of my local dealers agreed to my invoice + $300 offer not including the $1500 rebate over the email. When I got to the dealership the dealer added a few hidden charges to the cap cost. Which includes -$180 Training Fee (WTF?) -$300 Marketing + Advertisement Fee (seriously?) -$600 Labor charges (car wash labor, transportation labor..etc, right.) The dealer said BMW bills them for these charges and they are internal fees that don't show up on the internet invoices. Can I call that BS? The MSRP is $42990 and supposed with an invoice of $39595. He gave me $40975 as "their" invoice + $300. I gave time for him to explain the hidden fees then I walked away. He also told me that New York has a cap of $745 for max MSD. So you basically can't put 7 MSD to reduce the MF in New York according to him. Is it true?
Many thank jayrider...it think you are right to take a step back and relax. however, all i need to hear from someone in the forum is if this is a solid deal or just run of the mill. according to the salesman, this is a real bargain. i can't say that i see it that clearly. i lookup jvost and get opinion.
In NY/CT, relatively new to leasing so still reading up on things like reducing the MF with MSDs, etc. Curious what lease deals you guys have got recently on 528Xi's and how to decide/evaluate 'how good' the deal is. I know the Boston papers have the following: * 328i Convertible: $368/month with $3,800 down * 528Xi: $378/month with $3,800 down Though the ad said "nicely equipped" I called to find out they are base models with stick shift (stick is fine, btw). They also said the various fees would run to around $1,100-$1,500 *All leases 24 months, 10,000 miles per year with $3,800 down as cap cost reduction, plus all start up fees and taxes including 1st payment, security deposit, bank fee, documentation and registration fees. Some in stock vehicles may contain additional equipment at additional cost. Quantities are limited. Geographic restrictions apply. Pictures are for illustration purposes only. Prices subject to change in accordance with BMW factory programs. See dealer for details.
