Buying a car from a BMW Car Dealer
Thanks for the feedback. I've done a fair bit of homework on these cars, but when they acted like I was trying to steal it from them, I started to second guess myself.
They have it listed at 31,995. I got out of the very new salesman that the car has been on the lot since June. When I asked him about the car's history, he told me that they bought it from BMW USA, so it was a corporate car. To me that means the probably got it pretty cheap (relatively speaking). I offered 28,000 for it, and the lowest they would go is 31,000 (after several trips to the managers office). Obviously I just walked out.
Looking for some help in determining a price for the following car: 2003 BMW 325IA (btw, what does the "IA" mean?) Titanium Silver 12,580 Miles Certified Pre-Owned 4-Func. on board computer Automatic w/ Steptronic Leather seats Premium HK sound system Premium Pkg Split-fold down rear seat Sport Pkg Rear park dist control Location: Lansing, MI Thanks VERY MUCH for any feedback.
I have had a number of responses from my e-mail blitz, mostly from out of town dealers. A dealer in the Chicago area told me he will give me $3000 off of MSRP of any 325xi with the list of options I'm looking for. Sounds like a good deal, but there is a higher sales tax in the Chicago area, and it's about a 4 hour drive for me. A dealer in Indiana offered $36,545 for a car with a sticker of $38545, which as I figure is around %7 above their cost. I countered with $35,000, which is only 2.5% above their cost, so I'll wait to see what he has to say. The last dealer I talked to near Lansing, MI said he could go no lower than $35,645 over the phone on a car with an MSRP of $37,845. This is around 6.5% over their cost. He said we might be able to work something lower out if I go there in person with a deposit to put down. I told him thanks, but no thanks. I'm driving up to the local dealer in about an hour, since I haven't heard from them yet. I'm hoping for %2 above cost as a great deal and %5 as a max. Sound like I'm on the right track?
