Buying a car from a BMW Car Dealer
I think your best option is to call your salesperson (client advisor) and see what they'll sell you the car for. They can buy it back from BMWFS at an auction price and resell it to you cheaper than BMWFS will. You can save yourself a lot of money by doing this. Now, how do you get a price to negotiate with? There are a few boards here on edmunds town hall that will help you out. REAL WORLD TRADE IN VALUES - Type in the years, make, model, color, options, condition... and there are actualy car salesman that will give you a very good estimation as to what your E60 550i is worth. BMW 3 series - Prices Paid - I know this is a 3 series board, but there is a member named gbrozen who has a subscription to GALVES (the auction in the northeast) and can look up for you how much the last cars similar to yours crossed the auction block for. After you determine a price and negotiate with the dealer, bring the car into the service department for a Pre Purchase Inspection. If the car is going to need new tires (to qualify for CPO), then buy new tires so the dealership doesn't have to. If the car is going to need brakes or a service soon, see if the dealership will do it and this way BMW pays them for the warranty work (if they have to replace the brakes under CPO, then it costs them money). Good luck & keep us posted. Just so you don't think I'm pulling a rabbit out of my hat... We turned in an '07 X3 at the end of July. BMWs buyout was $26K & change. The dealer offered to sell me the truck for $21,600 + CPO + Tax. I turned them down, because I didn;t want a second car payment on a 3 years old 45K mile BMW.
Sounds high to me. I test drove a new 2010 335i with ZMP, ZPP, ZCW, Auto, Logic 7, Full Performance Package, Alarm and they were going to add Sirius Radio at Tomkinson BMW, Ft. Wayne, IN, MSRP $58,500. Final deal was going to be 4k down and $535/month OTD on 36 month 10K miles. They still have it if you are interested. Black Sapphire/Oyster. Dealers are having hard time selling Performance Package equipped cars and are getting good incentives from BMW to get rid of them. Good Luck!
Well you may be able to replace them with used but good luck finding some that would satisfy BMW upon lease return. I would go to tirerack.com and look up your tires. From what I saw there your OEM tires are quite expensive. They have many different brands that are available and you don't have to put the same brand on the vehicle just the same size. You could find the cheapest new tires and put them on because if you let the dealer replace them to meet the lease turn in requirements they will be no such thing as inexpensive.
HI, LOOKING FOR YOUR THOUGHTS ON WHETHER I SHOULD BUY A NEW 2009 335I SEDAN OR KEEP MY 2006 AN RUN IT INTO THE GROUND? I HAVE A 2006 330I SEDAN WITH 66K MILES ON IT. I FEEL IF I SELL IT PRIVATELY NOW I CAN GET A GOOD PRICE FOR IT. IF I WAIT ANY LONGER AND GO OVER 70K MILES IT WILL GO DOWN SHARPLY IN RESIDUAL VALUE. A NEW 2009 WOULD COST ABOUT $48K PLUS TAX. I FEEL I CAN DRIVE MY 2006 FOR 3 MORE YEARS (AN ADDITIONAL 50K MILES) WITHOUT ANY MAJOR PROBLEMS. WHAT IS YOUR EXPERIENCE ON GOING UP TO 110K MILES? I AM THE SOLE OWNER, GARAGE KEPT MOSTLY HIGHWAY TRIP MILES AS I AM RETIRED. BACK SEATING NEVER USED. SOME FRONT PASSENGER USE. LOOKS LIKE NEW INSIDE AND OUT. IF I GET $15K FOR MY 2006 MY NET CASH OUTLAY WOULD BE ABOUT $33K. I AM WONDERING WITH THE ECONOMY AS IT IS WOULD I BE ABLE TO SELL MY CURRENT CAR FAIRLY QUICKLY. ANY COMMENTS, OWNER-6
If you want a new car every three years and want no repair issues and want no hassles with trade-ins, you can lease. As edmunds explains it is almost always more expensive to lease vs buy if you pay off the car and drive it long enough. To summarize, it's a personal choice. Nothing related to buying or leasing new cars makes any real financial sense anyway.
