At a dealer in CT, I was offered $200 under invoice for a nicely loaded 2008 A3 and $2000 under invoice for a pretty bare bones A3. I passed on both because he lured me back to the dealership when I told him I was going with 2006 pre-owned by telling me the fully loaded one was $2000 under invoice. When we sat down to finalize the deal, he told me he made a mistake and the one I wanted was only $200 under invoice. At that point, I decided to go with the 2006 pre-owned that was pretty nicely loaded. The sales person told me the incentives were based on the age of the vehicle, and that they were getting a rebate from Audi.

I am not exactly sure what they are. I am in Austin and I forwarded some of the "deals" listed by people in this forum to my sales rep. and I was told they were the old models with the timing belt (aged inventory as they call them). Audi has incentives to move all of those older models out. To me they are all old models because of the refreshed 09's are coming out in a few months. The best I can do is about 300-500 over invoice for one of the 2008.5 models. For that price I might as well wait for the refreshed 2009 model to arrive. I currently have a lease ending at the end of Sept. so hopefully some will arrive by then or I will have to get something else... or maybe by then all the 08's will be considered aged inventory.

As a California resident my son (age 25) is seeking to take advantage of Audi's special leasing before the end of today on an Audi A3 automatic. He has been given the price as $29,988. He has been offered a monthly payment of $311.84 with a $2700 down payment. Based on a post I saw on your site, is it worth taking the $895 wear and tear insurance option. He will be driving the full 15,000 miles per year and goes snowboarding a lot. Also, you mentioned the ability to negotiate more miles at a discounted rate. Is this at the time of the lease or later into it? What is a good residual value for this car? Finally, is a $350 fee upon return of the car mandatory or can we bargain that one away? Thanks for your help

Make sure the dealership takes at least 1800-2000 off of the MSRP, and bases the lease on the number you come up with. I am paying a fairly high monthly number...$660 + 4000 down... but I am waiting for a used R8 down the road a bit. I am going against my usual strategy in leasing and putting more down than I normally do. But lately I have been getting bored with my cars sooner than normal.... maybe it's my age... 57. It is also a fact that Audi is hitting record numbers of sales with their cars now, so maybe that will be impetus for the salesmen and dealerships to make some good deals, so as to keep them on a roll. Good luck, and keep me possted.

1) A Volvo salesman told me your best deals are always in Feb as it has traditionally been the slowest month of the year for car sales. If cars aren't moving, dealers wiill deal. There are no guarantees that you can get the same deal later on. 2) The car being out a year doesn't dictate price. Demand and availability dictate price. If the dealer does not have many on the lot, there is no incentive to deal. If you want to bargain hard, you need to go for an Audi that is not moving for whatever reason (like unpopular options or lack of popular options) or pick another brand. Volvo dealer in my area is dealing hard with V50s to the tune of $3-5k. I was offered $3k off just walking in the door and another $1k over the phone. 3) Lying about invoice is just stupid in this day and age. Invoice prices are just too easy to get.
