Buying a car from a Audi Car Dealer
I'm in Charlotte, NC. I test drove the Q5. The car seems bigger, looking at it from outside, especially in the front, compared to those photos (blue Q5 online) that we saw earlier. It also seems wider in the front. I questioned whether it could fit through my garage door. The trunk space is small. I drove it in pouring rain (75-80 mph) and it rides well. For a German car, the turning circle was not impressive. I like it, pretty car but not sure about the price. Audi adds the premium and premium plus which jacks up the price. The Q5 and the A4 is the same car but the A4 gives you more options with the engine and the A4 trunk is bigger than the Q5. I'm hesitant because the Q7(big brother) and the Q5 has the same engine, 3.2l V6 which is not great on gas if you are fuel conscious. I like the car but not sure about the price when you consider the pros and cons. Maybe if Audi offered the Q5 TDI in the US at a reasonable price I would seriously consider it because the TDI is more fuel efficient. Plus BMW is asking a rediculous price for their diesel X5.
Thanks. (1) V8, due to lease terms, appears much cheaper; plus saves gas. I think you're saying that for our long (3 mile) continuous uphill drive to our house, you would use tiptronic or just sport mode; but, either way, that V8 is not necessary. I really need to sell my wife that V8 not necessary for driving up to our house in Malibu/Calabasas area (2) Inventory levels high, but dealers think lease terms are so advantageous that they may not offer less than $1000, unless you were buying the car. Did your "invoice" include any "advertising fee" or anything else not listed on Edmunds or Kelly Blue Book. (3) I assume acuqisition fee is really $525, so that I would not accept dealer mark-up beyond. (4) Used to be AFS customer; don't mind security deposit; I'd prefer BMW approach -- multiple security deposits yield lower MF.
I bought a sport packaged DSG 2.0T 2006 A3 in Ocean Blue. The metallic paint, DSG, and sport package w/ performance tires are the only options/extras I paid for. I love the car (especially how it drives and handles, though I haven't been able to drive it much as its frustrating to adhere to the break-in period which is 650 miles (I'm at about 450), but it did/does have some quality control/fit and finish issues that are disappointing. 1) Loose plastic panel on the left rear pillar right behind the rear door on the side of the top part of the seat back (maybe that's where they hid the Lojack transmitter???) can't think of any other reason how they'd overlook this loose/ill fitting plastic piece. It won't clip/notch back in easily, and I'm surprised I didn't notice it myself. 2) ugly brown/rusty-looking line (about 1/4" thick) across one of my dual exhaust tips (across the whole length visible) 3) Small scratch finish defect on glove box plastic panel (hard to notice since its facing downward and usually in the shadows). 4) Light hairline scratches all around the right front passenger door around the door handle (how'd the paint get all scratched up?, but only noticeable in bright sunlight). 5) Small but distinct hairline scratch (1/4" long) on aluminum door handle on the interior of the right front passenger door. 6) Now this one is really nitpicky, as you have to look at the right angles and with the right lighting to see this hairline scratch on the aluminum trim on the driver's side front door (the upper trim piece panel near the window). 7) Detailing/cleaning job was so-so prior to delivery (Downtown LA Audi) I might be forgetting something else.... as I don't have the actual list I'm making to keep track of so that I can take it to an Audi dealer and have them fix all of these defects/imperfections (less number 6, that one I did notice prior to delivery and it dissappeared for the most part when they cleaned it). I hope that Audi can correct all of these little fit and finish flaws. Any one of these is nothing, but since the list is adding up, it is getting very frustrating that a brand new car has so many fit and finish problems. You would NEVER EVER see a Honda with fit and finish like this. So much for the so-called German/Audi fit and finish quality reviews. It's also a quality control issue. All that being said, I think it is a great car, fun to drive as all hell (and I haven't even really driven it very spirited yet as still breaking-in), great engine, great DSG tranny, great gas mileage for a first tank (I'd estimate 26 MPG with 85% highway driving, but some acceleration/down shift tests, but not 100% throttle of course, and not maintaining anything over 5,000 RPM). I love the looks, style, and Ocean Blue color. I love the handling, no body roll, and the Dunlop performance tires refuse to squeal! They just grip and grip! Very grippy. So far.... I'd say its a 8.5 to 9 out of 10. Let me judge it a month from now again.
A3 is a hot car, its got a awesome interior and when I saw it in Ocean Blue Pearl with Gray leather with Spt Pkg, I thought the car was gorgeous. As far as the 10000 per year sales goal, by comparison to BIG car companys this is a tiny number, but Audi itself is a small volume brand, so 10000 for the first year model on a new body style is by no means small figure. I think they are stretching a bit here, and yes to reach 10000 units sold they will need to put on some sort of incentive but then again they probably will do that anyways during mid year to spice up the sales. As long as the car is beautiful and drives nice, it will sell and will continue to be sold. While the sales figure is not hot, it doesn't really say a lot about the car just yet. The fact is it has gotten great reviews everywhere I have to yet to read a negative review, as Gas pricing stay high consumer will start to consider, or think, small, sporty, luxury, and pratical. I like the car a lot, with dealer selling closer to invoice it's a good deal but no bargin just yet as the options adds up quickly. Once incentives kick in that's when I will consider to make a move.
