3 Bases, 1 Tech and 1 Tech w/Entertainmen in WV and VA
by hokie4 on Wed Nov 18 10:58:17 PST 2009
As of noon today 11/18/09.... The websites for the dealers below showed: Three (3) 2009 base models in Beckley, WV. One (1) 2009 Tech and One (1) 2009 Tech w/Entertainment in Roanoke, VA. I am not connected to these dealers in anyway, except I have traded with both of them. I was thinking about going with the 2009, but have decided on the 2010, but I still monitor the above dealers just to see what is being delivered.. I am one of those who likes the 2010 front. The new tranny scares me, but it can't be any worse than the problems found with the 2003 to 2005, which I own.... I am guessing the 2010 will cost me about $3k to $4K more, but I think it will be worth it to drive the newest version of the MDX.
Re: Canada [kyfdx] - Acura MDX incentives and purchase price
by khajokh on Wed Nov 11 08:02:11 PST 2009
kyfdx, >> Those incentives are for Canada, not the US.. You can look up current incentives right here on Edmunds.com. With all due respect, I don't think Edmunds is updated at all. Even my local acura dealer is willing to admit that they have incentives of more than 2k. Edmunds says that there are no incentives at all. As I have always maintained, I don't know what the true incentives are, and the website I referenced earlier may be referring to incentives only to Canada. But we are intelligent enough to guess what is the true dealer cost in USA from prices that various buyers are getting and posting on this forum. It is extremely difficult to accept dealer's word or simple 'assurances' of people of other poster's on the board. Here is a small compilation of purchases from this board: Tech: 1) kechal, purchase price= 39.5k; location : manchester, ct, when=9-Nov; 2) suharsh, purchase price= 38.7k, location =chicago, when: 7-Nov; 3) surfin, purchase price= 39.7k + 599 (destination?), location =jacksonville, when = 9-Nov; Tech/ent: 1) sarav, purchase price= 41k location = pohanka, va, when = 7-Nov (likely deal was done prior to nov 4??); 2) ucar, purchase price= 39.6+810 (destination), location = ??, when = 10-Nov base 1) lexluthor, purchase price= 34.1k, location =pohanka, va, when = 7-Nov, deal was done prior to nov 4 2) cplin, purchase price= 34.5k, location = naperville, ilwhen = 7-Nov; 3) michele19, purchase price= 36.9, location = ?? (Price included accessories such roof rack, kayak etc==> purchase price was in35.5k top 36k range; Except for one all of them compare well with the price range that I had arrived at earlier after assuming that dealers are getting a 8500/- incentive (and not passing on to buyer's) Base - 34k-35k Sports/Ent - 42k-43k Sports - 40k-41k Tech - 38k-39k Tech/Ent - 40k-41k Assuming that none of these deals resulted in a loss to the dealers concerned, there are two additional things to notice 1) the incentives do not appear to end on 4 Nov as was discussed on the board 2) the incentives do not appear to be specific to some high-volume dealers such as Pohanka, VA dealer - it is all over the country Congratulations to the above buyers for their great bargaining skills. ucar, getting a tech/ent for 39.6+810 destination is a great deal. This number is almost identical to what I gave my dealer. Would you be willing to share the location and dealership of purchase ?
Re: NYC area MDX prices [kokos7]
by lexluthor on Mon Nov 16 10:50:17 PST 2009
That's high, even for NY. I was able to get it down to around $36K for the Base in NY area 2 weeks ago. NY dealers don't seem to be going much below that. I wound up buying at Pohanka in VA for $34,100 (deal is now gone, but I still think it's available at maybe $500 more now?).
Re: rebate [vchad]
by khajokh on Sun Nov 08 22:53:53 PST 2009
Vchad, Honda "manufactures" Acura MDX in one place called Alliston, Canada (and as-of-now nowhere else - even though there is some discussion of moving MDX production to a plant in Alabama to ramp up for more Civic sedans in Canada) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acura_MDX Let us not confuse 'manufacturing" from "selling". The article from GlobeandMail refers to manufacturers in Canada - not where those cars are sold. Again, not being associated with either car manufacturers or dealers, I have no way of knowing whether this incentive is true or not. But the numbers that one derives, after assuming that these incentives exist, are very, very close to the deals a select few dealers are willing to provide. This, in itself, should raise the question - why is a dealer in Pohanka, VA willing to sell MDX base for 34k where as a dealer in NY/NJ would not go down below 36k? Where I live (about 1500 miles from Pohanka :-( ), the lowest base MDX quote is over 36.5k. I have no other motivation other than to research, educate myself and get the best deal. I simply cannot understand why I have to pay 2-3k more than what others are paying for the same commoditized product to which dealers add-on very little value. If others have more access to information on true incentives/better deal structuring, please do post. From my anecdotal research, it appears that there are a lot more buyers of Acura MDX if the dealers are willing to pass on the manufacturers incentives to buyers - not just keep them for their profits. Acura sales may not be suffering due to a lack of buyers, but more because of their dealer network pricing structures. Given the current incentives, here are what I believe are the reasonable prices one should aim for - Base - 34k-35k Sports/Ent - 42k-43k Sports - 40k-41k Tech - 38k-39k Tech/Ent - 40k-41k Anything over this will be an additional dealer markup. I am not making any buy/don't buy recommendations - I understand that is a personal decision based on many other factors. But let us correctly educate ourselves on what are the true cost/pricing structures and know what we are giving/gaining when we make these big transactions.
Re: Acura 2010 vs. Acura 2009 [suharsh]
by khajokh on Sun Nov 08 11:18:29 PST 2009
I agree with Suharsh that it depends on your need and time you have to invest in search/wait for best deal. If you are like me who can afford to wait and get a good deal, then 2010 may be the better option. Acura will discount the 2010 models - their sales are nowhere near where Acura would like them to be. Also, RX 350 is eating Acura MDX lunch if you look at the sales numbers. Don't get me wrong - I love Acura MDX, but I refuse to pay this high a markup for the dealers who essentially are doing very little 'add-on' services especially for new cars. These cars will sell by themselves if they price it right. I will certainly wait for 2010 to see what they offer. Here is one more article that gives an idea of the kind of incentives dealers are getting (and refusing to pass on to buyers) http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe-drive/what-theyre-offering/article1351166/ Suharsh, your 38.7k deal is actually not bad. Where I live, the dealers politely show you the door for any asking price less than 40k for tech even without any freebies. If there are more dealers like the Pohanka, VA dealer who dealt straight, there will be many more buyers.
