Acura TL w/NAVI - $31K in Central NJ
by sea1787 on Fri Mar 07 13:02:41 PST 2008
Thanks to everyone for all the great information....it's really invaluable. So I thought I would share my buying experience for those in central NJ. Purchased 2008 TL w/NAVI from Springfield Acura for: Price: $31,000 including Destination MV: $389 Doc: $258 Prep: $400 Etch: $188 (Don't really need but didn't haggle over it) NJ Tire Tax: $7.50 NJ Tax: 7% Contact John Freudenberger, Internet Sales. Wasn't a terrible buying experience (since I have low expectations) but three things really irked me. 1. I sent an email with all the exact details of the purchase conditions including the price & financing. During the financing part of the buying process, it was 'conveniently" overlooked that I had stated that 2.9% as the finance rate. 2. Which leads to my next issue, they kept urging me to give them the down payment when I hadn't received or signed the contract. Who the hell in their right mind signs over thousands of dollars for a downpayment without seeing or agreeing to a contract?!?!?!? Give me $K now and oh by the way, the price and financing rate just changed. Maybe I am naive and this is the standard practice in the car industry but as a manager of million dollar contracts, it seems ludicrous. As it turned out, that's when I was notified that the agreed to 2.9% financing rate was not available. I still got a decent rate but I was more upset about what I thought was bad business....whether it was intentional or not. 3. I was prepared to speak to multiple people thanks to Edmunds. Amazing how many of the story details are true. I learned to ignore everything they say or do and just focus on what matters, the details of the sale (Must Read - "Confessions of a Cars Salesman" - http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying/articles/42962/article.html) However, why the hell did it take 3 hours for a car purchase when all the terms of the deal were clearly stated in my email. Oh by the way, bring in extra copies of any and all communication.....they steal your copy and never give it back. I should've been out of there in 1.5 hours tops.....even with the negotiation on the financing. If it weren't for the great price, I'd walked out after an hour. All in all, I'm very happy with the price and financing terms. I'd give my experience with Springfield Acura a "C+".....the salesmen were somewhat friendly (except for the big shot) but the whole car buying game is ridiculous. Hope this helps you potential buyers.
Warning... Avoid Springfield Acura, N.J. at all costs

Bait and Switch, you tell me!!! Time Line: I contact Springfield Acura through Acura.com and ask them for a quote for TL with Nav. They quote me $31,704 without Taxes and Fees. I ask them for an Out the door quote, their internet manager quotes me $34526.14 out the door, IN WRITING. I counter offer $34000. Salesman A (different guy from the Internet Manager), calls me and we negotiate and agree upon a price of $34500 with the protection package. He tells me "Bring a toy gun and a face mask, cause you are stealing the car from us". We reconfirm the appointment time to complete the deal. After 10 minutes the internet sales manager calls me up and goes through the standard sales tactic, that oh, the price is below our invoice and that we will be taking a 1300 dollar loss, and that if I wanted to add the protection package he would give it to me at cost, but would have to charge me $200 more. So now the price is $34,700. I ask him to break up the cost for me. He puts me on hold for 5 mins and then tells me that he will check with his manager so that there is no mistake and will call me back. I get a call back from Salesman B, saying ok, i think the final out the door price that was agreed with the internet manager was $34996 and how do we go ahead from here. By this time, I have realized that its a bait and switch, and so I give him the previous history, and correct him that the last price (to which I had not yet agreed) was $34700. He tells me that he will check with his finance manager, (2nd time a manager is being talked to), and get back to me. He comes back to me with a breakup which totals $34996 out the door. I ask him to honour the offer made in writing, but he claims, that the offer of 34500 was a mistake, and that Salesman A was a new salesperson and should not have confirmed the deal at $34500 with pro pack. Overall a very dissatisfying experience. A classic Bait and Switch. Even offers in writing are now not being honored. Notice, the price of $34500 originally offered to me was a voluntary offer, and not even a negotiated one. So my advise... stay away from Springfield Acura.
2006 TSX are out
by inkyofok on Sat Nov 26 14:12:03 PST 2005
I sat in one Friday in springfield MO. New glacier blue auto with navi $30,500. Bluetooth, fogs and MPG trip computer, memory seats are new to all TSX. Some minor updates in steering wheel. Still no one touch sunroof that even a civic now has. Getting kind of pricey at $28,500--05 close out TL's were going for unbelievable $30,200. Now side by side the TL is much larger car but not that heavier. Odd? New glacier blue is nice. The old light blue it is not. Regards.... Oh, I liked the old TSX wheels!

Ah! The old bring the wife along trick. Usually works. Did it one time and she got all excited after a test drive and it back=fired when she decided she had to have the car no matter what. Oh well, sometimes you get the bear, and sometimes the bear gets you!
