Purchased the Acura 2008 MDX Ent and Tech
by namdxowner on Tue Sep 09 08:33:46 PDT 2008
Thanks for all the wonderful information provided by this forum. This forum certainly helped me in purchasing the MDX. I was able to get the car at $38,000 + sensors+Ding warranty+Zxylon+Taxes. The out of door is $42,000. Though the Zxylon thing is not really required, with two young kids, I thought it would be good for the car.The dealer, Lindsay Acura out of Columbus OH were great to deal with. We negotiated over the phone and confirmed the price of the car before going to the dealership. On top of it, they gave the 0.9% as well. We looked at two similar kinds of cars and bought the pearl white with parchment interior. The sales guy was great as well. He spent all the time to ensure we understood the features of this car. All in all a great experience buying my first Acura. :shades:
Re: Type S Wheels [23109vc]

Don't take it personally, really we probably just have different criterion. And to answer; I have driven some very fine RWD's on an autocross course, and I considered them in my hunt. The TL-S is sporty, but it is not a sports car, and neither is any sedan other than say the RX-8(cause it's not really a sedan, or barely qualifies). When you say the stick sucks, I assume you are referring to the torque steer, as the transmission is one of the best in the segment. I never said the TL-S doesn't torque steer. I can drive it right and I do encounter torque steer daily, it is still better than embarrassment of being seen with an auto trans. Driving to and from work is what 99% of us do with our cars, and 95% of those never even push it(so they can buy Camrys) ;) You are COMPLETELY RIGHT with the last sentence, if you want to get a daily driver that you can autocross or take to the track, the TL-S ain't it. That said, I have thought about taking mine to nearby track just for fun and to see what it will legally do. I know it won't match the CTS-V and M3(E46) that I have driven on the track, but I knew that when I bought it. Since I never really do make it to the track the way my life is right now, it made sense to compromise. I really did seriously consider a 07 Legacy B spec and a CTS-V, both of which have tons of tuner mods avail and would be tire/gas eating street monsters. I figured that since I want to build a new house this year, that it would be hard to justify the extra insurance, fuel and not to mention tires to the little lady, so I chose the compromise. You can still have fun with FWD tho, I have a circular park/traffic circle/skidpad in fromt of my office. Today I was having fun flooring it until I understeered, then lifting the throttle so it oversteered. Ok, I know it's not as fun as drifting. Oh well, maybe when I build the house I will get a "playtoy" to take to the track. That's one reason to build a house now, I have no place to park a toy or it's parts anyway. I hope that clears the air. :shades:

delta/John, I in no way intend to start a flame war, and my intent is not to insult you. I have read your other posts and you clearly have a full understanding of statistics. However, you are making statements about the law that are not fully correct, probably similarly to what I would do if I started talking about statistics. :) Misrepresentation generally... First, a false statement is only one requirement to legally prove misrepresentation. Second, an unintentional mistake is generally not actionable in the absence of negligence. Third, and this is the funny one, misrepresentation requires justifiable reliance on the person being deceived. As such, John/delta and I, and anyone else reading this thread, should already be aware that the ad has a "false" statement, and therefore we cannot reasonably rely on the ad. Sometimes being smart can hurt you. ;) Whether the ad is false... I have to disagree here as well because of a reasonable, but perhaps incorrect, assumption you are making. John, you have assumed a 325 security deposit. Logical, yes. But legally binding, no. A one month security deposit is simply the industry convention, not a legal requirement. AHFC could simply turn to you and say that the security deposit is $1 and the bank fee is $594. There is no requirement that they charge a full month deposit. Furthermore, if they waive the deposit, thus a $0 deposit, then the ad is still true... the 2499 includes the required security deposit. Ahhh, you might say, but the ad is still misleading... but, none of us know the breakdown of the 2499 until you get into the dealership. The problem is that you know you don't know the breakdown, thus it will be hard to prove that you were mislead. Your computations that back into the number are logical for sure, but legal proof of zippo, unfortunately. The biggest mistake people make, especially math/science types (myself included before law school), about the law is assuming that it is logical. How Stupid of you! (just teasing :) ) So, your statement, "From my perspective, the Ad is NOT mistaken. It means EXACTLY what it says whether intended or unintended. It's hard to argue with rhetoric." Well, not for a lawyer. :) You see, lawyers make the law illogical so we can charge more money. (I hope I’m teasing??? :confuse: ) Even if we were to call the ad a legally binding offer, the second you start to negotiate price or any other term, all bets are off. Legally, at that point, you are making a counteroffer. Thus, even if your $275 bank fee was legally correct, the dealership/AHFC is under no obligation to transfer that fee to a different deal for the car at a lower price. You'd be better off negotiating 1000+ off the price and paying the full bank fee anyway... ... John/delta, on a personal note... "Regarding my question concerning whether Walt worked for Honda/Acura. I meant nothing by it, so please, don't draw falacious inferences or erroneous conclusions. YOU don't know me so don't pretend that you do. ... You have no clue what was on my mind and neither does anyone else. " It has nothing to do with whether I know you, or whether you actually meant what was implied. It is the reasonable and direct inference people will draw when one makes a statement like that. Especially when dispensing specialized knowledge, it is easy to come across as arrogant/rude on the internet when we cannot hear the tone of people's voices. I myself have been guilty of it on occasion. So, you didn't mean it that way, which is excellent. :) But when a recipient makes natural inferences on what appears on its face to be an aggressive statement, it is not the fault of the recipient. Just put a smiley on the end of a question like that and we'll all know you're kidding next time... :) oh, and btw, not once did I question your help to others... I simply asked that you not attack others that also help. -apz4 :shades:
Re: Should I get an extended warranty [acuramike1]
by flats on Mon Jul 30 09:18:25 PDT 2007
The base warranty is 4 years, 50,000 miles. So you are basically paying for a 3 year, 50,000 mile warranty, that won’t kick in until 4 years or after you hit 50k miles. I’d rather set aside the $1400 and let it accrue interest for 4 years. Ask yourself how long you plan on keeping the car. If it’s under 5 years, definitely pass. Acura also has a base warranty for the powertain for 6 years, 70k. See what the extended warranty covers and make sure it doesn’t overlap. Why pay twice? Does the warranty transfer if you purchase a new car? We bought the extended warranties many moons ago when we got our first Acura's. We got the warranties for the exact same reason you mentioned. So far, we never needed them, and have since passed on all extended warranties. Our Acura's are our 'go' cars, which is an acronym for gas and oil. That's all they ever needed, many passed the 100k mark with ease. Excuse me while I go knock on wood. :shades:

For that price, I'd buy two! :shades: Don't forget there is also a $500 Manufacturer to Dealer incentive as well as some low APR financing through Acura. See if either is applicable to you through Edmunds or Acura's web site. Good luck!
My MDX
by annlee on Thu May 17 19:30:19 PDT 2007
Yesterday, we just bought our MDX tech/ent @ Acura at Oxmoor (Louisville, KY). We got a GREAT DEAL! We made an offer by email of invoice including roof rails & cross bars. They asked us to come in to work with them a little. I knew that we would not get it for that price BUT... Let me say that we walked out with a better deal than I imagined we would. None of the regional dealers offered anything close to what we got. The experience was great and I would refer anyone to check them out. Oh by the way, it is a SWEET ride. :shades:
