A reporter is looking for consumers who have traded in a paid-off older vehicle for a new(er) one. Did you trade in because of repair costs, or worries about reliability or safety? Was the peace of mind worth the cost (payments, depreciation)? Please send your brief thoughts and daytime contact info to jfallon@edmunds.com by September 20, 2004. Thanks, Jeannine Fallon PR Director Edmunds.com
Re: Starting to regret my decision on buying 2004 MDX [cheeks]

Couldn't agree more. Got rid of an '01 RX300 for the roomier MDX. Needed the 3rd row and couldn't justify the extra cash for the GX. The gas slosh is bordering on ridiculous! I STRONGLY URGE anyone thinking about purchasing an MDX to test drive it with a full tank of gas and with the radio OFF. Let the car go forward about 1 to 2 feet and hit the brakes. The sloshing noise coming from the back is laughable... that is, if it weren't a 35K automobile... now it's just frustrating. First and last Honda product I will EVER purchase. Really miss the Toyota/Lexus smooth and quiet ride. Too bad I didn't lease this one...
Chicago Pricing

Hello All: I've read numerous posts from people wanting to know if the price they paid was fair or not. I read a book once that suggested 2 to 3% over invoice is a fair mark up. With this in mind, I made 1 phone call to Ed Napleton Acura and purchased an '04 MDX AWD + Rear Entertainment System for $709 over invoice (slightly less than 2%). I used this same method 3 years ago to purchase a new '01 RX300 and I'm satisfied with the results. Wheel locks and cargo net were thrown in and the final numbers worked out like this: $36,482 Invoice according to Edmunds     709 Mark up     545 Destination Charge      54 Doc Fee   2,551 Tax 6.75% Will/Dupage County     143 Plates $40,484 Total price I might have been able to haggle down a couple hundred more by pitting dealer against dealer, I don't know. But the deal was done in about 15 minutes and I was satisfied that I didn't get taken. The salesman was great. He called all over the country to find what we wanted and it was delivered in about 2 weeks. The sales manager did our paperwork and offered us Hondas best rate of 3.89%. That couldn't beat our credit union rates of 3.5%, so he held off on handing in our Honda financing until we could get him a check from the Credit Union. I would be glad to recommend the salesman. M.R.

For tv news, we're seeking people with first-hand experience that Kelley Blue Book's pricing does not reflect real world used vehicle values (trade-ins and/or sales.) Please contact jfallon@edmunds.com by Friday, April 23, 2004 if you'd be willing to be interviewed on camera on this subject. Thanks, Jeannine Fallon PR Director Edmunds.com
