Re: Acura 2010 vs. Acura 2009 [lexluthor]
by suharsh on Sun Nov 08 18:45:38 PST 2009
Lex, Below is verbatim from another auto site and also has a link to details from the horse's mouth - IRS! I believe I have understood it correctly, if not don't hesitate to correct me. -------------------------------------- The recently passed American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 gives new car buyers a boost — an income tax deduction for state excise and sales taxes on the vehicle purchase. There are taxpayer income and vehicle price limits, but many buyers will be eligible for this benefit. According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), here are some of the basics: The vehicle must be purchased after February 16, 2009, and before January 1, 2010. The deduction is limited to the tax on up to $49,500 of the purchase price for an eligible vehicle. The deduction is phased out for individuals with adjusted gross income above $125,000 and for joint filers with adjusted gross income above $250,000. The deduction is available only for new cars weighing 8,500 pounds or less. The tax deduction is available to taxpayers who do not itemize as well as to those who do. An Example For the purchase of a $30,000 vehicle with 7% state sales tax, the taxpayer would receive a $2,100 tax deduction. The actual tax savings depends on the amount of sales and excise tax paid in your state and on your tax rate. Ask your dealer about your state's tax rates. Your tax break is in addition to any incentives or rebates offered by the dealer and manufacturer. Check out dealer specials in your area. For more detailed information on these tax benefits, visit http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=204519,00.html. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

buying the TSX

I closed the deal on a '09 base model in early August. I got an OK price but probably could have done better. What really pissed me off were the sales people. First, the "appraiser" shows up and tells me the market has collapsed on the used Accord I am trading in. So much BS. Then this guy tells me his Honda buyer is giving him the numbers. He can't ID the guy. So, more BS. Then, I get passed on to the Internet sales guy and he wants to borrow my keys so he can look at the car again. Funny, but he does not return them and I am waiting. This is an old sales trick that I thought was long ago phased out. So, I am looking at the sales guy like he is a fool but doesn't know it. This crap goes on and on and on. A couple of more stunts were pulled before I was passed on to the "closer" sales manager. He was an OK guy but had to continue with the charade of the "key" thing. I finally had to ask for my keys and I gave the guy a really shitty look, like who does he think he's kidding. As it turned out, I finally bought the car the following week but their detail shop did an incomplete job and I had to wait around. I had not paid for the car yet and nearly walked out. Anyway, I have the car but would just as soon forget about the jerks I had to deal with at the dealership. Sorry that I cannot disclose the dealership but it is in the greater Seattle area.
RDX w/ Tech Package

We bought an RDX last night, picking it up tonight. Paid $35K + free maintenance for 4 yr / 50K miles. Another incentive that a lot of people don't about.... Car Sales Tax Deduction for 2009 http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=204519,00.html You can deduct the sales tax and local tax for a new vehicle purchased in 2009 :)
Re: Acura pricing and observations of a TL loaner [23109vc]
by vchad on Thu Jul 16 01:27:15 PDT 2009
hey 23109vc, took me a while to read all that! Yeah it seems your just as frustrated how these acura dealers are pricing these 08 models, compared to what they sold for new. I mean, it actually makes me furious, and when you seriously call them out on it, they know your well informed, and they laugh at you/mock you, then tell you no way...knowing some innocent people come in, and buy it at a drastic markup. true story, i was at a acura dealer, last yr, getting my oil change done, and there was a young gentleman, super nice guy, and the salesman comes to him saying..."manager wants to move some cars, ill take 500 off the sticker!!" he was like oh is that the best you can do?, salesman says yes...he goes, ok ill take it! i felt horrible for this kid, I very politely pulled him aside, and said, i dont want to meddle, but there is a 3k rebate alone, you should be getting this car for atleast 5k off! he was shocked, and i told him about edmunds, acurazine, he was absolutely clueless that such sites existed. I realized there really are so many people out there, that just dont know about rebates/websites etc. Needless to say, he left the dealer, after he confronted the salesman about it, salesman DENIED such rebates existing, I pulled out my phone, showed edmunds website on it....salesman turned red, manager walked away........well i'm prolly not welcome at that dealer ever again!! (another couple was outside looking at the TL as i was leaving, i told them, pay 6k off sticker, they too had no clue on sale...i only wonder what happened to them! As for the new TL's....i honestly dont know of the best deals, but i think ive seen people mention lease rates around high 400's. I think trying to get a used TL at a bargain is tough, knowing the dealer tactics. TL is one car, id buy/lease new.....buy an extended warranty....run it to the ground, or sell it privately on my own once i get sick of it. i know what you mean about porsche, ive been a lifelong benz owner, wanted to get the SL550 last summer, but with the update they did, dealer only would take 3k off, and i Didn't want the 08 at a bargain rate, just looked age with the older face and interior. So i treated myself to a Porsche 911 carrera cabriolet....msrp 100k, i bought it for 77k. TOO good to pass up! porsche dealer was so desperate to get rid of it, brand new, with 12miles on it. i have to say, after the porsche, every car seems to drive like a boat. :)
Re: New Acura TL 2009 w/ Tech - Buying advice needed! [prchohan]
by vchad on Wed Jul 15 22:45:10 PDT 2009
prchohan, first off, the best thing really is, scroll back about 8-9 pages and read all the experiences people have had with the TL, you'll get a sense of what people think is a fair price, and have actually ended up paying. On that note, you should check, what kind of vehicle is being advertised, as always, who cares what they advertise, you offer what you think is fair, dont be intimated, dont let them force you into a deal. Were all here to help you, go shop around, do ur homework, make a fair offer, and if your unsure if its a good deal, ask the people on this forum, tons of helpful people here. Being in chicago area, I have a place out on lakeshore, and even tho i bought my acura in MI, im familiar with acura dealers, like Mcgrath, etc. etc. being your from chicago, id suggest going with Sh-awd. But fwd is just a good car, but sh-awd might be a better choice. Figure out if you want the tech, awd vs. fwd and go from there. i'm not sure of the current TL promotions(not currently active in the market, but im getting car bug to replace my TL, hence i keep an eye out for good deals) dont quote me, look in previous posts, i think Base fwd can be had for around 31. Probably Tech fwd maybe 33, and sh-awd tech, is about 37ish.
