MDX Tech w/Pwr Tailgate
by burgermac on Sat May 10 07:32:53 PDT 2008
Just put deposit down on a 2008 MDX Tech w/ Power Tailgate Invoice $40901 Neg. Price $41401, less 2K dealer cash $39401 plus dlr cost for Sport Running Boards($715) and All season mats ($109) Qualified for the last promotional financing rate (4.9%)- (qualified for the lowest super preferred rate, but dealer cash can't be combined with 2.9%)- payment is the same with invoice @ 2.9 or invoice less 2k at 4.9- figured it's better to owe less on the car overall. Dealer is in Memphis- they've figured out that it'll cost anyone about $500 between gas, car rental, plane ticket, whatever, to get to Atlanta, St.Louis, etc., and drive the car back here, so that's how much they marked it up over invoice. Makes sense to do the deal since we'll be getting it serviced at the dealer we bought from, etc. Already bought a 07 TL from them- worked that deal same way. Atlanta dealers (Ed Voyles Acura) generally deal at invoice and will offer the 2k dealer cash fairly readily. St. Louis wants to keep about $700, offering you about $1300 of the dealer cash (so deal would be $1300 under invoice) Dealers seem to have a lot of MDXs right now with more arriving daily. People seem to be interested in the power tailgate option, so you may be able to work an attractive deal on an existing inventory unit without that option (standalone option became available mid year). The 2009 TL drops this fall and most dealers want to move as much volume as they can to get a good allocation of TLs when they start arriving. Use this to your advantage when negotiating.
Re: 40900 with 2.9%? [austinpower]

That's not necessary true... My base model was offered at $35,588 and $35,529 from two different dealers in Dallas (incl. $715 destination) and I ended up paying $36,517 (including destination) for my MDX Base with a 0.9% (and pretty much additional $1000 in incentives) and extra $700 + Tax savings in trade in than if I were to sell to carmax. By buying out of state, you have to count the gas and mileage which I believe many owners hesitate in driving such a long road for a newly purchased MDX. Even if you make a deal online and have them ship it to your home, you are talking about at least $700 in shipping door to door.

Good luck with your new Acura! Your gas mpg...made me question if you may be using regular gas instead of premium gas as the car calls for. From what I have read regular gas will take a huge "bite" out of your mpg. I know this is not the forum for this....but please look in on the premium vs regular gas Acura forum. I read some great info. there!!

Mike Harvey Acura actually quoted me for a base, non-navi TL, for $27,400. But I didn't like the sales person...very pushy....I told him exactly what I wanted, the color, navi etc...and he quotes me that price.....I'm like...$27,400? for a Navi TL??!! And he said...oh....no no no......non-navi.....he then quoted me a base price of $31000+ for the Navi TL and that any other dealer quoting less is losing money on it....and I"m like...and that affects me how??? If I were you....try to get the best internet quotes through all the dealers.....that's what I did....Marin was actually very expensive....and Serramonte was the cheapest....but they wanted to charge me for the trunk tray even though it is part of the pre-installed protection package.....Marin called me later on.....this time it was the sales manager.....quoted me $31,000 also....(whatever $5K is under MSRP) I told him no deal and I was going to get it at Serramonte.....he asked what the price was....I told him $30,600 (I didn't tell him that I had to pay an extra $237 or so for the accessories) he then offered to beat the price at $30463 including the whole protection package and all weather mats. Since I lived closer to Serramonte, I told them about this and they matched it.......I really don't like playing them against each other....but in the end....I couldn't buy it from serramonte knowing that I could get it for almost $400 less in Marin.......so I caved in.....that was the only time I had them match the price.... I love the car.....though I've been averaging 18MPG highway and 14MPG city....ouch!! I"m glad I don't drive that much....and no...I don't drive over 65MPH either....hope this improves with time......its a beautiful car....but not at this gas mileage....

I have had my car for about a week now and have about 360 miles on it. The first week of driving returned about 24mpg on the trip computer but that involved a lot to Chicago suburban rush hour driving and some idling while playing with the car and warming it up on cold mornings. So I figured that was reasonable. It was about 1mpg more than my 96000mile Audi 1.8T would produce. However the mileage is so conditional on the state you drive and how warm the engine is. This morning after the engine was already warm (about half way into my commute) I filled up with gas and reset the MPG on the display. I then had some suburban 4 lane roads to drive on before hitting the freeway. The freeway was initially stop/start but then picked up to a more steady 55mph. I noticed that the average MPG increased and peaked at 40MPG in this steady state driving. Then turning off the freeway, I burned gas on some other minor roads before parking at work. That last bit reduced my average back down to 36MPG. So for the 10 miles I did after I filled her up, I average 36 this morning. That's incredible! It won't stay that high and I would expect it to drop back below 30 to the high 20s on the drive home but I will monitor that and record it in a spreadsheet. It will be interesting to see if it improves with engine break-in.

A lot of it has to do with long stretches of highway driving that get the oil temp up all the way. Years ago, when I had a sump-mounted oil temp gauge that I added to my MGB, I learned that it took most of an hour to get the oil temp stabilized, and longer than that when it was really cold out. Also, there was quite a bit of really curvy stuff that kept the speed down in some places yesterday. I hit high speeds occasionally, but certainly not all day. Also, I discovered the car computer appears optimistic. When I compared what the car thought I was getting for a tank of gas yesterday (33.1 mpg) to the actual numbers (12.33 gallons in 380 miles), I got 30.8 mpg, which is still no slouch but ~7% lower. Manual transmission may help too, though the EPA numbers say no. Of course, according to the EPA I shouldn't be getting anything like what I am. Could be the new EPA program assumes more aggressive acceleration or whatever, which I wasn't doing much of either.
