Buying a car from a Acura Car Dealer

CA Acura Car Consumer Discussions

2012 Update by dougsilver on Thu Nov 03 11:14:32 PDT 2011

My wife and I had settled on getting a new TL to replace our 2000 (other cars being considered were Genesis, Lexus ES, Honda Crosstour). We much preferred the drive of the TL versus the Genesis and Lexus and the Crosstour was really something we did not need at this point of our lives). The only problem was that we fell in love with the Mayan Bronze with Parchment interior. We knew we only wanted the FWD (really no need for the SH-AWD for the amount and type of driving we do in the Los Angeles area) but we wanted the Tech package. The color was not one that was produced in high numbers to begin with and it has been discontinued. So it turned out that there was exactly ONE car like this in all of California and the next closest was in Tempe, Arizona. We negotiated a reasonable price directly with the dealer in California that had the car and I have to give them a 2-thumbs up in terms of how they worked with us. The dealer was Hansel Acura in Santa Rosa and it was the most pleasant car-buying experience my wife and I ever had. We talked about buying the car and shipping it to southern California (and extra $500) but Hansel offered to pay for our airfare if we flew up to get the car. So we did so--they picked us up from the airport and mentioned that this type of long-distance buying happens quite a lot. The price (minus taxes, etc.) ended up about $37,100 which included splash guards, wheel locks, color door edge guards, cargo net, body side molding. Doug

2011 RDX FWD + tech pkg by gibraltarla on Sun Dec 12 08:13:35 PST 2010

Purchased a 2011 RDX (FWD) with Tech Package for $33,941 plus Tax and Fees. The dealer added the surface protection to the car ($441), which I could have done without. My wife didn't mind as it was the car and color she wanted. We live in Santa Monica, CA; dealer was Center Acura in Sherman Oaks. Pleasant buying experience.

QUESTION ABOUT THE PRICE by nlrl on Wed Feb 17 19:30:57 PST 2010

In Santa Rosa , CA. I was quoted for a 2010 RDX AWD with Technology package $35,599 For body side molding I was quoted an additional $312 And they ask also for Document prep fee $55 License/title $508 Tire/battery fee $8.75 Do these numbers make any sense? Any rip-off? Please help as I need to decide if I should go forward. Thank you

Re: 2010 Tech quote from CA [pvdesi] by ursamajor1 on Sun Feb 14 17:40:20 PST 2010

I financed the MDX through American Honda Finance (2.9%, 36 months), and the California sales tax and registration was added on to the financed amount, I had no choice in the matter. After some back and forth between American Honda Finance and the Utah DMV, it was finally registered in Utah 5 months later; I double-paid for registration but not for sales tax (Utah waives it if tax was paid somewhere, and the CA tax was higher). I asked about the temp permit/drive out option, but was told it couldn't be done. I did that with a Lexus I leased in Santa Monica 10 years ago, but that may have been feasible at the time because it was a lease vs. purchase (the tax is part of the monthly lease payment, which was incurred in Utah), or because the rules had changed, or just because the dealer's F&I guy was in a bad mood; in any case, he insisted it couldn't be done. It didn't bother me too much, I knew I had to pay tax somewhere, and Park City's sales tax is unfortunately not too far off the one in California.

What should I offer for 2010 TL - Tech SH-AWD? by acuracyclist on Fri Oct 23 11:14:07 PDT 2009

Many of these posts are helpful...thanks for sharing! So, after looking at every AWD car and wagon under the sun, I have finally decided I want the 2010 TL w/ Tech pkg and SH-AWD. but I am confused on what to offer for this vehicle. I live in the San Jose, CA area and will buy from any dealer in N. or Southern CA. I have seen the posts on what many Edumunds buyers got their 2009 TL / Tech / AWD for in the $36k's range in July - Oct. The dealer in Santa Clara (Steven's Creek) told me that there is 1.9% financing on the 10's now, but not the extra dealer cash that was available on the 09's. He has said there is definitely room to negotiate from MSRP and has told me to make an offer that he can present to the sales manager. Given that I don't know, and the sales guy isn't told by mngmnt, what the holdback is, and other volume $$$ incentive that is available to this dealer, How do I know what I should offer? I did the yahoo auto quote offers and got 3 quotes in the $39k -$40k range ($3k-$4k off MSRP) I know we are new in the 2010 model year, so can't expect to get quite as low as the 2009 / $36k pricing, but I am hoping I can get in the $37k-$38k + TTL range. does the host for this forum or anyone else have any idea if this is reasonable, and how i can position my argument and offer with the dealer for best price? I'm a little confused on the various back-end $$$ that flow to an Acura dealer. Thanks for any and all advice. I want to buy in next 14 days, and I will post the price I paid and who i bought from when transaction completed! ">
