I had a similar issue with my 2001 Lanos. I took it to a local car dealership and they replaced a cap that is under the reserve, for $45.00 and that fixed the problem. Remeber that Daewoo parts are interchangeable with other cars like the "Swift" or other small cars - so the cost should not be so high to repair minor details like this one.

First a pop and then car stopped
Written by: leo2009 on Apr 24, 2010 4:18:51 AM
2001, Daewoo Lanos was running great....stopped at a light and heard a pop sound, as I continued to drive the engine sounded like a tank and then it stalled. Had a hard time starting it but was able to get it off the road, but now the car is shaking, makes loud noises and has no power to be driven anywhere....any idea what car problem I am having?

my 2001 daewoo lanos automatic when warm is shifting fine..Except when engine gets really warmed up after about 15 minutes of highway driving,it pops out of the overdrive gear and won't go back into overdrive until I turn engine off and cool down..Replaced the thermostat and still doing the same??..Could it possibly be the transmission fluid??..I have over 100,000 miles on the transmission and have never changed the fluid...

Just to update I changed the Injectors, FPR, and another CMP sensor for the hell of it. Still no start. Wow I changed just about every single part on this car and it still will not start. I've never experienced this in my entire life no wonder they no longer make these cars. OK All parts changed and checked as of today: Spark Fuel Comp Intake Cranks Freely without abnormal noises. ... I took some advice from a friend to use carb cleaner to see if the motor will start and surprisingly it did. But obviously it died out after I stopped spraying. So what does this tell me? That the timing is in fact ok? or could it be clogged Inj or bad FPR? IMO It seems that there isn't enough fuel getting to the motor. What yall think. The motor sounds ... Read More

DAEWOO LANOS~2001
Written by: ktsmith04 on Oct 11, 2008 11:37:30 AM
We just replaced the heater core in our Daewoo because of water settling on the floorboards, we thought this was the problem. It over heated alot and constantly had to put coolant/water in it. Well, it finally overheated on the highway and started to smoke badly from the exhaust. Coolant was also dripping from it. Finally found a heater core, put it in(not an easy job), filled it with water again....same ... Read More

So in other words the EVAP isn't the problem. The most likely reason it was tripped was due to me dry testing the Fuel Pump. Since The EVAP works at a desired pressure the code will not clear until three consecutive ignition cycles engine running. I know there was a recall on the CMP sensor( Cam Position Sensor) for my year and model but it was replaced and the engine was ... Read More

probably a bad fuel tank pressure sensor, bad wiring to the connector, bad wiring in the PCM circuit or a bad PCM module: Here's some ideas: System Description The evaporative emission (EVAP) system includes the following components: * Fuel tank. * EVAP vent solenoid. * Fuel tank pressure sensor. * Fuel pipes and hoses. * Fuel vapor lines. * Fuel cap. * EVAP canister. * Purge lines. * EVAP canister purge ... 2001 Daewoo Lanos Won't Start

Ok basically my lanos 1.6L will not fire up. The fuel pump works, New Fuel Filter, New spark plugs and their all firing, I took each plug out one by one to make sure each one was giving out spark. They all checked ok. I plugged in the Scan Tool and the only code I get is a P0452 EVAP low. How do I fix that? And will this keep the ... Read More

I own a Daewoo Lanos. It had a similar problem. I replaced brake pads, and this did not solve the problem. I also resurfaced rotors and this did not help either. Finally the problem got worst to the point as was required to apply a lot of pressure on the pedal to stop the car. In the end I discovered it was the brake booster which was damaged.I n the beginning ... Read More

I went to start my 2000 Daewoo Lanos one day and it sounded the same way, like the starter was turning but not engaging anything. Man was I wrong. The Teeth had stripped off the timing belt aroung the crank shaft and what I heard was the starter turning the crankshaft after all four pistons had contacted the valves and bent them, there is no compression once that happens so the ... God what a huge amount of money. Is he wanting to change every dam thing out in the a/c system or what??? Maybe he just doesn't want to mess with it and is trying to make it "worth his while". Let's hope he's better than that! It may actually be Daewoo's fault but someone could surely diagnose this problem. Lots of daewoo enthusiasts (mechanical and non mechanical) out there. ;) I ... not under warranty as it only has a 3 year 36,000 mile factory warrenty and daewoo did not offer an extended powertrain warranty. but it sounds like just a stopped up pcv problem p.s pcv is the crankcase ventilation try replacing the pcv valve.

You could check for a defective crancase ventilation valve (PCV valve), also for oil overfill, and last of all (gulp) a cylinder leakdown test to check for engine wear.

2001 Daewoo Lanos Crank case pressure
Written by: jbaker2237 on May 14, 2006 4:37:17 AM
I have a 2001 Lanos that up until yesterday was running excellent. It has only 50,000 miles. The pressure in the crankcase is forcing oil out from under the oil cap. I'm wondering if it's a compression ring breakdown or something less benign. I bought this for my son for college just two months ago. Is this still under warrenty?

Daewoo Engine questions

Interestingly enough the Daewoo Kalos sold elsewhere in the world has a newer engine than the Chevy Aveo, Suzuki swift versions. Yes, unfortunately these still use the old Daewoo Lanos 1.6L GM Holden built engine. I would have expected GM to go with Daewoos new engine, but it seems that they are so concerned about making money on these cars for a change that they decided to go with the GM ... Read More
