Dodge/Plymouth/Chrysler Minivan Problems & Solutions

eneth, I agree on your thoughts...

I agree with your worriers concerning the Chrysler vans completely. Having had three Chrysler vans so far, the 2001 has been the best in terms of reliability and fit and finish My 1988 Grand Voyager LE was awful until I found a good non-Chrysler mechanic. It had a myriad of electrical problems, but luckily no transmission problems, but that may be because the 4-speed ... Read More...

Carleton....

You've got to understand that the Chrysler vans do in fact have more problems than the foreign competitors such as the Toyota and Honda. I don't call power sliding door problems, unpadded armrests, and rattles qualification to call a product unreliable. I've had three and know the ups and downs of the Chrysler Corporation. I've stuck by them throughout the 14 ... Read More...

eL and eX are the correct spellings in 2002 Caravan Brochure

In 2001, Dodge called it the Grand Caravan EX. The 2002 Caravan brochure calls them the eC, eL, and eX on pages 20 and 21 where Standard features and options are shown and pages 22 and 23 where Colors, wheels and accessories are shown. I have not yet seen a 2002 Voyager/Town and Country brochure so it may be that Chrysler models are labeled differently than Dodge. ... Read More...

Cgaydos - No problem...and a couple more thing about the cargo

As I said before, my '88 Grand Voyager had much more usable space behind the third seat because of the boxy setup trunk opening. The '96 van was great in that it had more shoulder room up front, and much bigger windows all around, yet the very curvy setup of the rear cargo area left something to be desired. Plus, the rear air compressor was moved to the passenger side ... Read More...

Cgaydos - Fuel probably fine

I too was shocked with the disappointing mileage, but that was in my 1996 LXi. My 2001 Limited around town gets about 15 miles to the gallon, which is exactly what I got for 5 years in the '96 LXi. But I even asked the guys at Chrysler when I had the '96 if I had a fuel problem, because it was such worse mileage compared to the previous 1988 Grand Voyager. All they said was ... Read More...

Honda Odyssey vs Dodge/Chrysler minivans

Since we're on the topic ...(long)

I'll share my stories with all the three Chrysler vans I've had. I've previously said I was never "burned" or felt they were unreliable (to an extent) but they have and had their share of problems... 1988 Plymouth Grand Voyager LE (traded at 84,145 miles) - Mitsu 3.0 V6 head gasket blew up - A battery that would always almost go dead if too many ac systems were on. This ... Read More...

Transmission Problems

My 2001 Chrysler Voyager mini van is only 5 months old and has already had the transmission replaced. It still seems to be bad, making slipping sounds, slow to take off and has occasional sounds like something hitting the underside. It has had the rear wiper motor and air bag clock spring replaced. There has also been a recall of a door latch completed on it. The service ... Read More...

2001 DC Minivans

Hotspur keeps boasting about how many possitive reviews the Ody has been given over the last few years as if the same cannot be said for DC minivans. In fact, this is not true and I think in this post I will successfully prove my point. EDMUNDS.com And while the Honda Odyssey comes closer than the Montana, the Honda still feels a bit more ungainly and heavy than the ... Read More...
