Re: 2001 Town & Country nightmare [lecor]

This same thing happened to my husband this weekend. The yellow engine light when on only gave him about 5 minutes to get off the the road and just died right there in the middle of the road, then he lifted the hood and smoke was coming out of the area where he thinks you put transmission fluid. What did they find out was wrong with yours, ours is in the shop now and we are ... Read More...

Re: What is the difference between these 2 T&C country configs? [aaron_t]

In our humble opinion, if you have the money get the Limited with the DVD Player and Sunroof. We've had a 1998 T&C, a 2001 Grand Caravan ES and now the 2005. It is the best car we have ever owned. Better than our Hondas, Acuras and anything from the US. On the Tuesday after Labor Day 2004, we went off to our local Honda dealer and put down a $1,000 deposit on a 2005 Honda Oddy ... Re: 2001 Town & Country nightmare [mismaili]

I have identical problem, and all the dealer can say is "it didn't do it for us". They said if it starts, runs 3 seconds and then stops, it means the computer does not recognize the chip in the key and thinks the van is being stolen. First time they replaced the main brain ($500 plus $286 "labor"+ $38 towing), second event they replaced "the alarm brain" for $300 + $175 ... Read More...

Re: Rough Downshift 2001 Chrysler Town and Country [kbmoose1]

I have a potential explanation because I've seen this happen. Sometimes a technician, especially those not familiar with the nuances of Chrysler automatics, may start the engine up and place it in to a neutral or a gear before having enough ATF in the system. A sensor detects low, out-of-range fluid pressure. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) reads this ... Read More...

Just to follow up - the mechanic is an old friend, he wanted to change the fluid and filter again just to go thur things. He did, problem was still there, he call Chrysler. They finally told him it was a computer reprogram, but they couldn't explain why. Just said it happened sometimes. He reprogrammed, everything is cool. Read More...

Re: Rough Downshift 2001 Chrysler Town and Country [kbmoose1]

If he used Dexron-Mercon with or wihout an additive it is not unusual to get torque convertor shudder or irratic EMCC/torque converter clutch operation. Only Chrysler ATF+4 (MS-9602) should be used in these transmissions. Dexron-Mercon does not contain a patented friction modifier that is required for correct shift operation. Being obverfilled is a big ... Read More...

Re: Rough Downshift 2001 Chrysler Town and Country [kbmoose1]

I had this happen on my 03.. it was a computer problem.. I think there is a procedure for resetting the computer after a transmission service. My van calmed down after a couple of days.. I'd give it a few days before he re-does it. And like the other poster said - make sure he used ONLY Mopar ATF +4 fluid in your transmission. Dexron III (normal A/T fluid) will ruin your ... Did your mechanic use "genuine" Chrysler transmission fluid? Use only the fluid that your dealer sells for your vehicle and nothing else or you will have "big" problems. Read More...

Rough Downshift 2001 Chrysler Town and Country

Hi - I'm new to this site. I have a 2001 Town and Country with 84,000 on it, never had any problems. Had the transmission fluid and filter changed last week by a guy who's worked on my cars for a long time, and he's been very good. Since the fluid change, the van runs smooth up to cruising speed. Slowing down, at 30 MPH, there's a distinct shudder from the trannie. My mechanic ... Read More...
