Test Driver Ratings & Comments
Acceleration commentsWe haven't observed torque-steer like this in quite some time -- the steering wheel tugs hard to one side while accelerating at full-throttle. The engine is quite loud and not in a good way. Upshifts at redline are harsh.
Braking commentsStrange two-stage pedal push-back on emergency stops where it resists and travels about half-way to the floor from about 60-30 mph, then goes softer and nearly to the floor from 30-0 mph. This is not what I'd call confidence inspiring. The results are admirable nonetheless with some dive, but reasonably short distances and minimal loss of effectiveness with straight, controlled stops.
Handling commentsSlalom: At what we'd call a very low threshold, this minivan's electronic-stability control (ESC) takes such aggressive action that it would cause a normal driver to think something had gone drastically wrong. On several occasions, the brakes are applied so hard that the tires skid and (despite the steering pointed to the side) the minivan went dead straight and struck a cone. After just a few runs, we could smell the brake pads because they got such a workout. This is really old-fashioned ESC tuning at its worst -- and in a vehicle that would be well served for a sophisticated system. Steering feel is good and makes placing the minivan rather easy. Skidpad: Here, first the throttle goes away then, again, the brakes come into play.
