EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

Fuel-efficient engines and a lengthy options sheet make the Sebring look good on paper, but the driving experience is wholly unimpressive.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

The base 2.4L four and mid-range 2.7L V6 provide disappointing performance and refinement; the top-line 3.5L V6 is smooth with healthy mid-range response. Handling is average for a midsize family sedan with moderate body roll and decently weighted steering, but the brakes are underpowered.

Comfort

RATING

The Sebring provides a quiet, comfortable ride. Headroom and legroom are ample front and rear, but hip- and shoulder room are tight for a midsize sedan.

Function

RATING

The control layout is simple, and it takes only minutes to figure out how to rip a CD to the optional MyGIG on-board hard drive. Trunk capacity is low for this class, though both the rear seats and the front-passenger seat fold.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

A midsize car built on a stretched compact-car chassis, the Sebring has an ungainly look that won't win many fans. Interior materials quality is mediocre.

DETAILED PROFILE:

Daily Commuter A stable, comfortable ride, simple controls and a good driving position make the Sebring a solid choice for commuters.

Economical Transportation Base prices are low compared to the more elite import-brand nameplates in this class.

Fuel Efficient Even the top-of-the-line 3.5L V6 earns a 19/28 EPA rating.
