2003 Chrysler Sebring Transmission problem
Written by: teedup on Sep 21, 2008 10:10:00 AM
I have a 2003 Chrysler Sebring with 45K miles on it. The transmission was replaced at 44K miles but it is still sluggish like this transmission is about to go out with less than 2500 miles on it. I have brought in this car 4 times for over 4 weeks with the same problem and each time I have to rent a car until they fix it. I havent had my ... Read More

Hi, I have the same problem. 2003 Sebring LXi conv, that had the airbag lite on when I bought it, from dealer at 16K mi. Dealer fixed it, by replacing tensioner(s). Then over the next 10K mi the problem recurred at least 2 more times, both times within the 36K complete warranty, both times fixed until the next occurence. Fine for about a year and a half. Car now has 42K ... Read More

I also have a 2003 LXI Convertible and have been dealing with the air bag light issue for several years. The first time occured under warranty. The dealer replaced the seat beat tensioner in the right seat. This fixed the problem for about 9 months. Since then, the car has been in the shop at the dealer at least once and sometime twice a year. The service advisor at Carl Burger ... Read More
I have a 2003 Sebring Coupe, 3.0 engine, less than 39,870 miles. A week or so ago I had an oil change done by the dealer. This week I noticed an oil leak under the right front part of the hood. Before I take it to the dealer and have them look at it, any idea what this leak is from?

Problem already so I brought a 2003 chrysler sebring less than a month ago as a young parent I thought it would be safer then my old 2000 chevy cavalier however the first two weeks I have it it spent in the shop between the hyndi shop and chrysler (I bought it from grappone)finally after two weeks chrysler said they had figured out why the dash lights come on and off ... My 2003 Sebring Limited Conv had the same problem with its 16" chrome factory wheels. Was having new tires mounted at all corners and the shop owner called me out back to show me the flaking chrome plating on the wheels where the tire bead makes contact. He said he sees this often on Chrysler chrome wheels. His solution is always to apply black goop on the tire beads before mounting ... Read More
I've had the same intermittent problem with my 2003 Sebring Limited convertible. Early 2005, dealer replaced the multi-function switch on the steering column. This fixed the problem. However, just last night the instrument cluster went dark again. This morning it was lit up fine. Looks like it's time to see the dealer again for another muti-function switch replacement. Looks like Daimler Chrysler switch is designed for short life.
I have a 2003 Sebring convertible that consistently leaks air from the tires. It has been caused by the wheels exhibiting corrosion around the rim. I have been told by two Chrysler parts managers, as well as two different tire shops who fixed the problem, that the problem is a common one. I have been told by the Chrysler Corporation that they will not participate in any replacement of the wheel ... Read More
2003 lx Sebring has the most beautiful rear end of all cars, include gals, like Monroe, Grable and include the robust enormity of Nicole. If Chrysler in 2007 disengages on Sebring's lucious rear end......I will not buy another Chrylers Sebring model. Cars like the 2003 Sebring LX does have a unique sexual DNA. For men..... the rear end is the most important and impressive aspect of artistic form.

The dealership service dept. assures me the brakes are fine and feels that the issue is suspension/steering related that only occurs when braking and turning. I now have 37,500 miles. Sound is no worse, and no better after many attempts on their part to repair. I have additional postings you can review.

Did you evet get a fix or answer to the problem. Have you replace the brake pads recently or when you last replaced them did you get the ones that have a procelan (hope I spelled that correctly) material? I replaced my wifes brakes and just a couple of months later they began to screech every time we applied the brakes. I tried using brake parts cleaner, reseating the brake pads ... Read More

The dealer replaced the struts on both rt & lt front. New stabilizer links, control arms, extra lube..Didn't make a difference. 35000 miles...getting concerned because the 3 yr/36000 is close. Got a price from the dealer on extended warranty. They only recommend a Chrysler warranty because so many others have gone belly-up and they have been "stuck" (now they know how I feel). My 05 Sebring started doing that about a month ago at 13K miles. The dealer discovered that my front shock towers are loose and need re-riveted. He got the new rivets in, but, so far, can't get the special tool needed from Chrysler to install them. Will post again if the dealer actually manages to fix the thing. Regards: Oldengineer

Wondering if any of you that responded to #80 still have your Sebrings....and do they still make the same crunching, grinding noises in the front end when braking and turning? What was the remedy? Any other problems caused by the definitely present but nonrepairable problem (even though my dealer keeps telling me it's normal for the car). Sounds like a Blower Resistor as your fan still works on high. I just replaced mine last week in a 2003 Sebring - took about 45 minutes. Exact same thing on my Windstar last year. The Blower Resistor retailed for $45.95 Canadian from Chrysler, and required some X-acto knife trimming of the plastic plenum to fit the new part as it is slightly larger than the original. I hope the new ... Read More
I have a 98 conv. with the same brake noise as everybody seems to complain of. The noise comes from the rear brakes not the front. The problem comes from glazing over of the brake shoes. We also have brake noise on our 2002 Sebring with approximately 30,000 kms, just like you describe. The dealer has machined the rotors twice now and the problem is still there. I am not particularly happy with this in light that that the rotors life span is now reduced to maybe two more machinings and then they have to be replaced. Chrysler garage out of courtesy replaced the steering fluid. Kept hoping for quiet, but there seems to be no difference in the noise when braking and turning. Any other suggestions? Mechanics feel it is suspension related, but they can't fix it. Great.
