Vehicle2001 Chrysler Sebring LX 4dr Sedan (2.4L 4cyl 4A)
ReviewFor years I was reluctant to purchase a Sebring Covertible because of the reliability issues I had heard about. However having recently sold a wonderful Saab 9-3 Convertible I decided to give a used Sebring Convertible a try. Although the build quality might not be quite up to Saab standards, it is very acceptable for this price point in the market. The LXi sold for approx. $28,000 new as opposed to nearly $43,000 for the Saab.
What it may lack in build quality it makes up for with better structural rigidity, a smooth ride and smooth V6. (Just be sure to maintain the engine religiously) The most pleasant surprise is the exceptional gas mileage, and the roominess also desrves mention.
Best FeaturesGreat sounding Infinity Stereo - AM-FM Cassette and 4 CD changer all in dash. Well laid out controls. Exceptional fuel economy over 30 mpg in all highway driving. 27 mpg mixed driving. High teens to 20 in city driving. Roomy, attractive interior. Beautiful styling. Lack of cowl shake or chassis flex (much less than in the Saab 9-3 I owned. Roomy trunk. Decent power - smooth V6 engine. Great value. Relatively inexpensive to repair (parts are not grossly overpriced) Again - Just make sure to change oil regularly and perform all preventive maintenance.
Worst FeaturesThese really are nits being picked but here goes - Build quality could be better - still acceptable for this price range. Weak door stops that tend to crack with use. Can be suspeptible to water leaks as with most convertibles, but fairly easy to trace and repair. One issue to watch for - the 2.7 liter engine reportedly can be prone to engine sludge issues - so be sure to service it regularly. Please note I consider a score of 3 "good or average" a 4 "very good or above average" and a 5 "excellent"

Just a quick update - This Chrysler Sebring LXi Convertible is just a pure delight to drive. It continues to provide me with comfortable, roomy & reliable transportation. This is a car that I look forward to driving as I find the ride more comfortable, the Infinity stereo far superior, even the fuel mileage better than the Saab, and the lack of cowl shake due to the better structural rigidity is a very pleasant surprise. Although the Saab was a very well-built vehicle, the chassis flex felt especially through the steering wheel detracted from the overall enjoyment of an otherwise superb vehicle. Hopefully the Sebring will continue to be a reliable vehicle, a this is a car I hope to enjoy for many, many years to come.Report it

It's been over 2 years since my last update & the Sebring continues to perform flawlessly. It remains a very reliable fun-to-drive convertible with excellent fuel mileage. I hope to drive it for many years to come.Report it
