1999 Sebring smoking.
Written by: trrobbs1 on Aug 14, 2011 7:05:03 PM
Hello, I had just recently bought a 1999 Chrysler Sebring with a 2.5l V6 Mitsubishi Engine. It was working well and fine until I merged back onto the freeway from getting fuel. It then appeared to have switched a gear, or stuck. Nonetheless, the major problem arises from the white smoke blowing from the Exhaust and the Oil Intake on the engine is quite smoky when I take it off to ... Read More

I have a 1997 sebring convertible JXI w/ 2.5l v-6. Had the problem of no start which is common to the internet posts on this make car. Ended up replacing the: crank postioning sensor, distributor (which includes the cam sensor and coil as they are built in the distributor), upstream 02 sensor, catalytic convertor, fuel filter, egr valve, map sensor, throttle positioning sensor, engine coolant sensor, air intake temp sensor, and ... Hi. Well, I finally had fixed my stalling issue. There are two possible things that might be wrong. One is the Computer Module might be bad. I didn't replace that. What I did replace was the Thermostat sensor. And I made my idle a little bit higher. Me and my buddy couldn't figure it out. I had enough when I was driving 70 mph on the fast lane. Then the car ... 1999 Chrysler Sebring stalling

Purchased used. Started stalling. Reading discussions on the net. I am not a mechanic but a novice with only basic tools. I've concluded the following: 1999 Sebring convertible was stalling. Would drive and the car would just lose power and stall. No engine lights or codes light up. Plugged in a computer at AutoZone and nothing. First these cars make it difficult to changed the spark plugs and tune up. 3 ... Read More

I would suggest that you take it to your local Advance Auto Parts and run a diagnostic and see which codes come up. They do this for free. My sebring did the same thing and it turned out to be a spark plug misfire that randomly made my check engine light come on.

There are two modes of check engine light illumination, the first is the light will come on for a short time then go off. This mode means there is a problem that is considered "minor". The next mode is the light stays on continuously. This means a minor problem has been allowed to continue for an extended amount of time or the problem is more serious and needs attention sooner than ... Read More

I have a 1999 chrysler sebring with 92,000 miles. the check engine light stays on most of the time, and at times it goes off for days. what do you think is causing that. the car runs good.
I just read online that Chrysler has sent out a recall on Sebrings due to an electrical problem that might cause stalling or other issues. "Chrysler will seal the wires for the tire pressure monitoring system" at no cost. However--according to the story I read it is on 2007-08 models only. As we know, this problem occurs in Sebrings from 1998-2008. Mine is a 1999 and after the 4th repair recently, ... Read More

I had that problem with my 98. It took forever to figure it out. It was the antitheft relay. On the 98 it has three relays on the firewall, it is the middle one. All I can say is try that. It's pretty cheap too. It worked for me.

Haven't had that one. But it would be interesting to see what Chrysler has to say. So far my 2007 still has engine light on and they say nothing shows up on diagnostic still! No shut offs while driving for about 3 wks. :(

I am searching for the same answer. I have a 1999 Chrysler Sebring, which I have loved for 4 years now. Lately it stalls while I am driving it--twice it left me in a dangerous situation, including today in traffic. Mechanics cannot find anything wrong with it, it starts up just fine for them. It will run fine, for a couple of days, or a couple of weeks, then out of ... Read More
My 1999 Sebring has water in the spare tire well, and I can not figure out where it is coming from. So any suggestions would be helpful. By the way my car use to leak inside, I resolved the interior leaks by cleaning the weep holes every time I have a scheduled oil change (it would behoove Chrysler to put it in their maintenance manual).
Kai9 you probably have a electrical device on the car that is draining you battery all the time. check all fuses and make sure that all lights internal and external are off. :)

Hope someone can help! My 99 Chrysler Sebring will not start. It has 120,000 miles on it. It would not restart one evening after I pumped gas. The AAA guy jumped it, and I was on my way. The next morning it started, and I went and purchased a new battery at Sears. I made one stop on the way home, and it started again just fine. The next morning, it ... Read More

I would 1st like to start off by saying that i understand your pain. I own a 1999 Chrysler Sebring. This car its the worst purchase that i have ever made in my life. The car is unreliable, undependable, and most of all over-priced. the car was purchased brand spanking new. The 1st problem started with flat tires( the tires are extremely expensive $186.00). As with yourself the check engine light ... Read More
