I had a 1997 Sebring LXi with similar symptoms. Mechanic replaced the Exhaust Gas Recirculation E.G.R. Valve located directly behind the engine adjacent to the firewall. That corrected the problem and the repair cost about $150. Good luck. Read More...

Hi. I have a Chrysler Sebring 1997 and it has been an excellent car. The problem I am having right now is that when I turn off the wipers, they stop immediately (they do not finish in the bottom part of the windshield). I have an unusual problem. I got out of my 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible then realized I had left the driver side window open. I went to close it and it went up part way and stopped. well hello to all again. I have a update on my car and its not good news. Starting with first bill: $868.00 for a major, major tune up. Door handle on driver side broke also. I own a 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible JX, which I've had numerous problems with that I won't go into at this time. Suffice it to say there will never be another Chrysler in my life again.
