I took my 2003 PT Cruiser to a shop to have a steering problem fixed. It had 107,000 miles on it and was showing no transmission problems. Next thing I know, the shop calls me and says the differential went through the transmission after the mechanic repaired the steering problem and was driving it. They said I need a whole new transmission for a total of over $4,000! They then charged ... Read More
Get your computer changed before it goes over 90,000 miles, it is free from Chrysler to change it once on a car. I had to last year and had to pay $3000.00 for all the work on my 2003 pt cruiser. My transmission is slipping now and I replaced the alternator, timing belt, heads, lower engine mount, complete tune up, and so much more last year. I wish I would have ... Read More
Wish I had came on this site before I fell in love with and bought my used 2003 PT Cruiser, I have had it exactly 4 months and 4 days, it is now at the transmission shop waiting to see if the used car dealer I bought it from is going to help me pay for a transmission. I came on this site with my fingers crossed hoping that Chrysler had ... Read More

I bought an 2006 base model with A/C, keyless, CD satellite radio and an auto trans for $11,200.00 (plus tax & lic) in November...a great deal on a very good transportation car. I don't think there are any differences between the '06 and the 2007 because the PT was just significantly refreshed in 2006. I would certainly buy this car again. It is not an exciting car to drive (like my ... Read More
2003 PT Cruiser - A very satisfied owner... What can I say about the PT: In short this is a very good car overall. My wife and I had our eyes on these way back in '99 but we wanted to wait a few years before picking one up. We're especially glad we did as the prices did come down a bit from the early models. Plus the four star crash ... Read More
I have a 2003 Pt cruiser with a little over 23000 miles on it garage kept. It has been to the chrysler dealer twice once under warranty and now out of warranty. It sound like it may be coming from around one of the belts. The first time they changed the thermostat and second put a new altenator on it. I have a 2003 PT Cruiser also. Beginning this summer my tires started losing air. I am topping up every week or two. Last week while out of town I got a flat. The tire dealer told me the internal corrosion caused by the aluminum wheels was breaking the seal and deteriorating my tires. He told me this is a problem he has seen several times. What is Chrysler doing about ... Read More
I have 2003 PT Cruiser GT (turbo), with aluminum wheel with chrome outside surface. Because of the corrosion on the inside of the wheels I can't get them to balance. The Chrysler service manager said that they need to be replaced. Has this problem occurred with others? Did you find a remedy without replacing the wheels??
Purchased 2003 Cruiser (not turbo) new with automatic. currently has 16,000 miles. Routine servicing has been performed and use mobile 1 oil, changed every 3000 miles. The cruiser is used mostly in a light traffic suburban area. MPG with air conditiong running =17.0 MPG MPG with out air running is 20.0 these numbers are very consistent as the MPG is checked every fill up and the overall MPG is 18.5 compared ... Read More
2003 GT We are getting ~15mpg city, ~20mpg hwy. Terrible, TERRIBLE numbers. They are consistent. If we turn off the AC and drive tentatively, we can boost those numbers by 1mpg. I've added a performance air filter, but it did not change the mileage. This is way outside the EPA estimates, and we are looking for a replacement vehicle. Chrysler refuses to look at the car unless the check engine light ... Read More
I prefer the current dash and grille (2003 Limited owner prejudice?) but applaud the efforts towards reduced cabin noise. The Chevy is hideous and may find this retro-delivery van market to be pretty tapped out. In the intended market the PT Cruiser has no competition. Chevy came too late with too little...
Well I've had the used 2003 PT cruiser for 4 months and put 10,000 miles on it. Definitely miss the 5 spd '99 Cougar, but domestic tranquility has settled in (and I don't have to drive all the time). Funny side note on this vehicle: bought it used from a Chrysler dealer in March, changed the oil in May, found a mouse nest (and former inhabitant) in the air filter. So ... Read More
2003 PT Cruiser Limited Edition in Deep Cranberry. I ended up getting one because my 02 Jetta was totalled, and I wanted something with a good interest rate, lots of room, good reliablity, and a good price. I work for Chrysler Financial, so I knew good rates could be had (I got 1.9%/72 mos.). Ended up paying $22,050 for the car before taxes, and $25,500 or so after taxes, 100K warranty, ... Read More
Hi gaguy1- Thanks for sending me the email. I've forwarded it onto our management for clarification. The wording is a little unclear, imo, and I apologize for the confusion this has caused. One thing I want to point out is that the email you sent me is from Edmunds Future Vehicle staff (Feedback Form response), which leaves me to think they are referring to a new (future) PT Cruiser trim line ... Does anyone have any new information from Chrysler as far as when the PT Cruiser Convertible will go on sale? We know that the target date for release is the spring of 2004, but isn't it possible that this car will go on sale as early as the fall of 2003?
These cars have attracted lots of interest in the past year or so, with big articles in both Car & Driver and Consumer Reports in the last few months. And I expect that in the coming year even more people will be drawn to 5-door hatchbacks, which offer some SUV functionality with a better driving experience, better gas mileage, and a better price than the trucks which have dominated the roads ... Congratulations on your NEW Turbo PT Cruiser. I just read Edmund's nice review of 2003 Turbo PT Cruiser where it stated 215 HP and 245 Ft Lbs Torque (same as Chrysler 3.8L V6 in T&C / GC). Since first seeing and sitting inside the PT Cruiser, I have wanted one. We finally test drove an automatic and was surprised at the acceleration with 3 adults and 2 children aboard. However, it ... I am currently driving a Dodge Dakota, but the lease ends this year. In my next vehicle, which I intend to purchase, I am looking to retain some of the utility of a pickup truck while adding four doors and a full backseat for family functionality as well as affordability in the $20,000 price range. These factors, combined with eyecatching good looks, make the PT Cruiser a strong candidate on my ... Read More

The PT Cruiser is rated to tow 1000 lbs. I don't know how the dogs would fit, however I would guess that you would have to remove the rear seats which is certainly easy enough to do. You would be effectively turning the car into a 2 passenger vehicle. As far as getting in and out of the car is concerned, the doors are somewhat short (the whole car is short) ... Read More
