Well, the site I have looked at so far is autopartsfair.com (http://www.autopartsfair.com/chrysler-used_transmissions/pt_cruiser-2002-catalo- g.html?fit_notes=9716867599da51db0efa638ce5418263&seq_num=4) and they mention a 6 months to 2 years warranty on the transmissions. I haven't looked too far into it so there may be more to the whole thing. The pricing they have on different transmissions seems to be based mainly on where they'd be shipping it from. In the end I just want to go a route ... Read More
Get your computer changed before it goes over 90,000 miles, it is free from Chrysler to change it once on a car. I had to last year and had to pay $3000.00 for all the work on my 2003 pt cruiser. My transmission is slipping now and I replaced the alternator, timing belt, heads, lower engine mount, complete tune up, and so much more last year. I wish I would have ... Read More
Hello, the car is a 2007, and it engin light would come on intermittently, when you acelerated, the car would start jurking and the engin would bog down untill you let off the gas. the chrysler dealer we when to said it was the ideler sensor on the belt. the charged us $400 and they sucked at it. the car had 37,000 miles on it and we were led to belive ... I have a problem with my 2002 pt cruiser, where it down shifted to 2 nd gear from 40 miles a hour on its own i slowed the car down to a stop shut it off and when i did it started rolling when it was in park. started the car no gears at all in the car automatic trans. So had it towed still no gears n no park also. ... Read More
I am currently on my 2nd PT Cruiser, a 2006 Signature Model, the previous was a 2002. The 2002 model had multiple issues with the wheels and steering wheel, the tires were always deflating. And after a few years of frequent rotations and constantly putting air in them (they were checked for leaks, none were found--in the tires anyway), I started having a non-stop shimmy in the steering wheel. I took ... Read More
I also have a 2002 PT Cruiser that lost its gauges about a week ago. Took it to my mechanic who verified the cluster fuse (#10) was intact, cleaned body ground connection, and replaced the weak, original battery. VOILA!! ..... cluster gauges restored. He also found that his technical references spoke of intermittent cluster problems that were fixed with re-booting the cluster by disconnecting and reconnecting the battery; seems there might ... My 2002 PT was undergoing constant failures of rims. It's not that unexpected. My tire dealer grinds the rims because the wheels deteriorate (flaking), and the air escapes. It is onstant and bothers the hell out of me. You've got to replace two or four of the wheels/tires to make some headway. I finally junked the Cruiser and bought a new Scion xB that offers no trouble. Thanks to Toyota and ... Read More
My owner's manual recommends replacing the timing belt at 90k miles (2007).
I’ll tell ya what wrong; there are two engine cam shaft Idler sensors. Ours (2007)went out and Chrysler wouldn’t pay for it to be fixed under warrantee, @ 37,500 miles. So, we told them to fix it, and we would pay, THEY REPLACED the wrong one. We took it to our regular mechanic when it was still doing it and he found the problem rite away. I think 1st of all ... I would definitely check/replace the timing belt. I was on a 10 hr road trip when my cruiser lost power, the engine light turned on on the spot, and then the car turned off. Bad news =( My timing belt went out. DEFINITELY have your timing belt replaced, 60,000 miles is the recommended interval, I was stupid and had no clue that had to be replaced and it cost me about ... 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser - - Approx. 65,000 mi. Automatic transmission. 4-cylinder. Runs great most of the time. Seems like every 4 to 5 weeks the car begins to shake, loses acceleration and the engine light activates. After a few seconds - - engine performance returns to normal. What is going on ? ? No other problems.
You wrote: I have a 2003 PT and have never had any problems with it until now. It has about 70,000 miles on it. I have 1 2002 PT Cruiser, and at 89,000 miles, the check engine light came on. In my case, it turns out the computer chip for the car had malfunctioned--apparently that's supposed to be very very rare. The computer chip needed to be replaced, and only Chrysler could do it. Good luck.
It's not your TIRES! It's the damned chromed wheels that are causing the problems. They pit and lose their seal with the tires, thus enabling air to escape. I've had this problem six times in the past two/three years. Thank goodness I have a replacement warranty purchased from Just Tires so my repair is covered. We should make Chrysler respond to these problems as the guys at my Just Tires say ... Read More
I, too, have purchased a used 2002 Lmt. Ed.PT Cruiser 3 months ago. It's been in the shop, under it's 24K or 24 months warranty that came with the car, for 12-16 lb. air loss in front tires every 3-4 days, suspension problems, and now overheating and bad battery problems. Last night, the battery was replaced and today the Cooling Fan was replaced. They have also replaced whatever holds the sway ... Read More
Help!! I am looking for information re computer trouble and whether or not it is natural for the torq converter & tranny to go at the same time?? We replaced the plugs, that was the first thing, and the sensor was stalling at 4000 rpm. He checked the ignition circuit too, though I don't know about the second one, I'll ask. The computer has had the latest update of TCB stuff too. Apparently, he can make it fire in perfect sequence without the computer. He said something about the computer receiving the right signal, but not returning the right ... Read More
I'm having the same problem! The folks at Just Tires say this corrosion is well known to them on PT Cruisers. I have had rim leaks due to corrosion on my 2002 PT three times in the past year. Luckily I bought a cheap warranty from Just Tires and so they repair my wheels for free. But Chrysler should RECALL these wheels already!
Hi, I bought my 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser used in Oct of 2006 with about 75,000 miles on it. I had no problems with it up until this past week. My fiance drove it to work and he said it drove fine, on the way home,he said he had the cruise control set at 55 mph, and he said all of a sudden,it started losing speed and downshifting. While it's not mine, I wanted to pass along the sale of another PT. My mother-in-law traded her 2002 PT Touring Edition for an inferno red 2004 PT Cruiser GT this afternoon. I only noticed one post about squealing brakes. I am considering buying a 2002 Cruiser. I have had 2 Chryslers in the past with brakes that squealed and a friend of mine has had the same problem. Is this a problem with most PT Cruisers?
I am looking at the Mini, the GT Cruiser, the Honda Element and they all have problems. The Mini has a bone-jarring ride on the Cooper S and you can't get an automatic on the S, but if you get the plain Cooper CVT, you don't have adequate power. You can't win either way. The Honda Element lacks a moonroof and is supposed to be slow with the automatic. I was ... Read More
These cars have attracted lots of interest in the past year or so, with big articles in both Car & Driver and Consumer Reports in the last few months. And I expect that in the coming year even more people will be drawn to 5-door hatchbacks, which offer some SUV functionality with a better driving experience, better gas mileage, and a better price than the trucks which have dominated the roads ... c-van...I'm not expecting to get good mileage on the GT Turbo, since I have a sneaky suspicion I'll be "into the turbo" quite often. Additionally, the turbo spools up early in the rev range, where most of us do the majority of our driving. That's both good news and bad news. It's good because torque is available almost immediately. It's bad because I'll be lucky to get any MPG approaching 20...probably ... Read More
Congratulations on your NEW Turbo PT Cruiser. I just read Edmund's nice review of 2003 Turbo PT Cruiser where it stated 215 HP and 245 Ft Lbs Torque (same as Chrysler 3.8L V6 in T&C / GC). Couldn't agree with you more. I won't be going to the "gouging" dealer for any purchase ever again. What really got to me was the fact that they had pulled all the official MSRP stickers off the windows of the Turbo Cruisers. They had a "duplicate" sticker that looked like the regular Chrysler MSRP sticker (complete with the Chrysler logo, EPA info, standard/optional equip, warranty info, etc). Usually, when the dealers ... Read More
I am currently driving a Dodge Dakota, but the lease ends this year. After working two dealers and coming up with the options and price I was happy with we finally bought our new cruiser (my wife says it's her's). We chose a limited steel blue cruiser with ABS, heated seats,(my wife is cold-blooded) roof rack, stereo upgrade-really nice. MSRP was $22,025 and we got $1000 rebate and $1000 discount and $2400 trade for 1995 ford windstar with 98000 miles. We really love it. ... Read More

chrysler.com the official site seems to have the 2002 cruiser information already in place. go to the "build your own" feature for the PT and it will give you a choice 2001 or 2002 model.
