1990 Chrysler Imperial Sedan 4dr Sedan

Review

Big luxurious 1980's style American boulevardier. Quiet and comfortable on smooth roads, rough pavement causes abrupt and harsh ride. Poor handling, with loose floating motions on quickly undulating freeways. Spacious, first class looking, fully equipped interior Impressively roomy rear seat legroom. Disappointingly, the first class interior styling is betrayed by average contstruction and assembly. Rattles in doors and dash occasionally sour the luxury ambiance. Powerful but boomy 10 speaker Infinity Ultimate Sound system. Overall a nice blast from the past available for bargain prices. Imperials do not stand up well to abuse or neglect, watch out for well maintained examples.

Favorite Features

Headlamps concealed behind motorized covers. 6 passenger seating. Digital/electronic graphic instrument cluster. 2 position memeory for driver's seat and rearview mirrors. Auto dimming inside rearview mirror. Overhead travel computer. Extra spacious rear legroom. Good fuel economy. 21 city 27 hwy.

Suggested Improvements

Bigger wheels & tires! 14 inchers are too small for a full size American Car. Heftier/ more solid feeling interior components. Lexus level quietness, road/sound isolation. Standard CD player. Rear Seat sun visors/vanity mirrors. Overhead passenger assist straps.

Review

Overall great car. Perfect size for family of 5. Rear seat/leg space just comparable-or better- than Crown Vic. 15" wheels would have been better choice. Aquired car w/ 90000 miles & ran it another 100000. Air suspension gave out & replaced w/ New Yorker suspension. Elegant body design w/ high level interior. Would have kept it longer had there been a need for a 3rd car. Ample trunk space w/ handy air compressor for emergencies.

Favorite Features

2-memory seat adjust. overhead console. comfortable rear seats. wide rear doors. front seat adjust. interior sound proofing. roofline. heavy car ride. sound system.

Suggested Improvements

1. turning radius needs to be tighter. 2. variable suspension selection should improve handling. 3. 3.8L engine w/ increased hp would make car better performer. 4. better paint finish. pealing common problem [even on other chrysler products]. 5. re-positioning of control buttons on driver's door

Review

Bought car with 69,000 miles for $2000. It now has 71,000 miles and has needed a waterpump, new hoses, rear brakes (rotors and pads), muffler, battery, and that is about it. It has pretty good pickup and will run with a 1994 Crown Vic till about 90 MPH. Very comfortable car on the staights but you have to take it really easy on the turns due to "comfort tuned" suspension.

Favorite Features

I love the power seats and the looks I get from the Ladies. ;) It also sounds pretty quick revving it up.

Suggested Improvements

Stiffer suspension, more horsepower, and that's it.

Review

I have enjoyed excellent service from my Imperial. I wanted a good looking, quiet, dependable, economical, and unique automobile. The Imperial has not disappointed me any at all. I receive compliments on it's good looks and uniqueness. Most people that inquire are surprised this car is 15 years old now. The unique front end, tailights, and formal roofline set this car off from others around it. The sumptuous interior includes supple Mark Cross leather seats and a premium sound system. It rides like a dream but not wallowy like a boat. You drive surrounded by genuine luxury, security, in an atmosphere of peace and quiet. The car does work the small engine, but the fuel economy is excellent

Favorite Features

Unique looks, quiet ride, dependability, supple ride and luxurious interior, and fuel economy. I regularly receive compliments of how good looking the car is for its age. I replaced the small 14" wheels with attractive 16" wheels and tires. This really improved the ride and suspension performance.

Suggested Improvements

The rustproofing metal treatment should have been more thorough. The 3.3 V-6 engine is just adequate, the 3.8 has much snappier performance for interstate traffic. Provisions for aesthetically integrated foglights would have been appreciated.
