I don't think I ever posted to this particular sub-forum but used this set of forums (& Edmunds in gen'l) extensively in 2004 to decide on my 300M purchase 8 yrs ago. I probably did the last post on how to read and reset a check engine light on one of these forums. The "loose gas cap" was about the only gremlin I had the past couple years on my low ... Read More
I have a 2004 chrysler 300M. After replacing several sensors including the PCM, the dealer said I need a new wiring harness for $2700. Is there any way to reset the engine light to get an inspection so I can renew my tag? Is the car totaled because of an engine light?
This sounds like it could be a fuel problem. There is a fuel line filter under the rear seat which should be changed about every 5 years regardless of mileage. This would explain the high rpm incapability (not enough fuel in the restricted line) , non-starting and - you may experience rough idle or even stalling after hard stopping , due to condensation building up inside a clogged (abnormal) fuel line ... I have same thing FIRST start of the day. To "solve" it I turn key to full on position which allows dash light and beeping to begin. Wait 10 or 15 seconds ( listen for a pumping sound ) after the wait start the car. I have a starting problem with my 2004 Chrysler 300m (OD: 51,000 miles). When I turn the ignition the car cranks over and over but does not start. I can hold the ignition switch and allow it to crank for a full minute but I won’t start. This happens about 75% of the time, BUT the other 25% it starts with the first crank with no problem. Symptom 2: With the ... Read More
I had a '99 Chrysler 300M which I sold with 248,000 miles on it. The car developed a starting problem. The first start of the day was perfect. After I had driven long enough for the engine to get hot, it would not start without waiting 15 - 30 minutes. I sold it and told the buyer about the problem. He put another 5,000 miles on the cAr and got conflicting ... Read More

Hope this message finds everyone well. My 2002 300M is now approaching 88,000 miles. Just had to replace the evaporator for the A/C system at a cost of $1450. Earlier in the year, replaced the battery (preventative maintenance) and tires (I actually got Eagle LS-2's and they have been fine). Also got the TSB taken care of for cracking bolts on front buckets (if you have not gotten this attended to, ... Read More
My 2004 300M Special shutdown on me when I was playing with it on a long trip. On a wide open desert highway in far West Texas I had an opportunity to see how fast the car would go. No traffic, just me and Special. It appeared to be chip limited at 127 mph. I coasted down to about 80 mph (the posted limit) when all the idiot lights came on ... Read More
I have owned a 1999 300M and a 2004 300M Special, running each of them for about 75,000 miles. (I currently own a 300C). The '99 300M required standard wear item replacements (brakes, belt, hoses, battery, etc.) and then one of the electric fans went out. I replaced both fans (complete assembly) for a bit over $300, since I had planned to keep the car. The right rear window stopped working ... Read More
After reading through some of what has been posted I am convinced that Chrysler has a real problem on there hands.I own a 2004 last model of the 300M. It had 12K miles on it when I bought it. Very good at taking it in for updated services, etc. Last year "2007" is when I started having problems while it was still warrantee. Re-accuring problems with the surging of the engine ... Read More
There are a lot of misinformed and hard headed people out there that love to bash Chrysler. I have owned 2 Town & Country minivans, 2 300M's (a 1999 and a 2004 Special), and I now own 2 300C Heritage Editions. I would not have even considered buying these cars if they were not reliable. I used to be a Ford man until I got fed up with seeing my service ... Read More
My 2004 300M Special required a cam sensor replacement at 40,000 miles at a cost of $300. Other than that, it has never needed to return to the shop for anything. I cannot justify buying extended warranties for $2000 to cover $300 repairs with a $100 deductible. Save your money and spend it aas needed. Fortunately, Chrysler is building one of the best made cars on the road these days, and ... Read More
I love my car but perhaps, like most 300M owners, I wish it were simply better built. Anyways, I'm looking for some wisdom on 2 little but annoying problems which my dealer - Birmingham Chrysler-Jeep in Troy, MI, seems to not be able to detect for more than a year now. The problem 1: most of the times when I lightly accelerate and the car starts to move, I hear some ... Read More
I am new to the forum here. I bought a 2001 300M in March 2004, during my last semester of college. It has a steel blue exterior with the dark slate gray interior. I had a 1991 Ford Explorer that was falling apart and it was certainly time for a new vehicle. About a year prior to my purchase, I came across the 300M at a car show and I fell ... Read More
Luckily (I guess or DC fixed this weird bug) my 2004 has not shown this light show problem in 17,000 mi. I suspect that a 2000 Chrysler has only 3/36 warranty which is what my 2001 Jeep had before I bought a 5/70 extended warranty which just expired. The 2002-05's had 7/70 and I understand some, not all 2006 have a lesser warranty again. I just drove by our dealer lot ... Read More

Re gas mileage: My wife and I have had a total of 4 300M's. The first, a 2000, had an EPA rating of 18-26, but got better gas mileage than the 2001 @ 18-27. Similarly, the 2 2003's we know own, have the worst gas mileage of all. My 2000 would get about 22.2 on mixed freeway/city driving to L.A. The 2001 would get about 21.3 for the same driving. My ... I need to replace the headlights on my 1999 Chrysler 300m because they have gotten very cloudy. I really like the newer, high intensity headlights on the 2004s, which look like they should fit my 1999. First, will they fit? Second, where can I buy them for less than the dealer charges? Your advice will be appreciated. Thanks!
My leased 2000 300M got great gas mileage. When I turned it in, I bought a 2003 M. My wife recently got a new (demonstrator) 300M to replace her 2001, which was totalled. We have both noticed that the gas mileage has not been as good as the prior models (2000 & 2001). However, we have only 7,000 miles on each of the 2003's, so it may get a little better. ... Read More
By looking at your last posts, it looks like you have no clue what-so-ever about the LH platform. Maybe you are familiar with the other junk such as Altima's, Ford's, and Cadillac (Poorest rating in 2004). ...and I love it! It's a new Graphite 2004 Platinum Series 300M. I especially like the color combo of this one: http://www.manassaschrysler.com/Chrysler/290124_1.html
I agree, Chrysler does not have anything worth serious consideration for 2004. That's why I bought another 300M and intend to keep it for a while. CTS originally caught my interest, but when I found it was a rebuild of the Catera, my interest waned, and then all the options brought the price too high. Also, they have had some 1st year problems if you check the CTS board. Interesting looking ... Read More

I think the Maxima has the most life of these three. The addition of a manual makes it a very tempting choice. I would love to test drive one to see what it is like. Wow! It looks like Chrysler has at least stirred up some controversy for our board. ruski - I agree. On it's own, perhaps as an Imperial, the 300C would be more palatable. I'm think it's stupid that they're calling it 'C' and not 'N,' but maybe they'll rechristen the production version. I personally think that the 300C is stunning. If I look at it from an objective viewpoint, the car has some design merits. Actually, it seems right in ... Read More
Bigmike- Where do you live? For quite some time now, Chrysler has had 0.0% for 60 months or $3000 cash back on all 2003 300Ms, Concordes, and Intrepids. So far, this is the best looking Special I've ever seen. Graphite Pearl over the Taupe & Slate interior, plus the standard 17" chrome wheels. The wheels alone make it much nicer looking--something I didn't suspect. Boy, is this car gorgeous! http://www.manassaschrysler.com/Chrysler/290014_1.html
I'm not sure about the current incentives anywhere else, but in Delaware at least, Chrysler is currently offering either a $3,00 rebate or 0.0% up to 60 months on all 300M's. Beach15, Sound like a case of an offspring who is passionate about cars versus parents who aren't. Since they're paying for it it's their call on what to buy, unfortunate for you. Wow, those price cuts sure do rock. Starting MSRP for a 2002 300m is $28,995 with Destination while a 2001 $30,295. Gorsh, an Acura TL is $33,710! Hmmm it seems to me that everyone who is complaining about the 300m should either fork out the extra $5 grand for the imports or use that $5 grand for performance mods to make the 300m faster than any $34,000 Acura.
