There are a few rules of thumb I use to determine what may be causing some hard or intermittent starting issues , other than what may be some sort of serious cause. Firstly and foremost , is that the battery terminals must be clean , or in a condition where I have cleaned them recently (within 6mths) with a battery terminal cleaner , to ensure good contact with the computer in ... I believe Chrysler had issues with the 300M series in 2002 and 2003 with sensors and PCs going bad. I found many posts about this and wish I would have known that when I picked up this car. Replace Cam, Crank sensors first. See if that fixes it. If not then replace the PC. Use only official Chrysler parts or your issue may not be resolved. I had to tell the ... Read More
i have a 2003 chrysler 300m .. bought it a week ago with 108,000 miles... runs really good but now all of a sudden after i crack it 4 or 5 times it doesnt wanna start...it turns over and tries to crank and eventually after trying alot of times it will start and run but when you gas it its like it has trash or something in it.. kinda stalls out ... Hi my husband bought me a 2003 300m special last year for my birthday! I loved the car at first, drove great, plus fast and its beautiful; but then started hating it too cuz of its issues. My check engine lite started coming on also plus at 2500 rpm its would act like it had a bad cough. I've gotten a couple of code of P0340 and P0344 the past few ... Read More
My first 300M was a 1999. It was fully loaded, Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat with a tan leather interior. It was one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen, but it was a real pleasure to drive as well. I traded it for my second 300M, a 2003 Special in Midnight Metallic Blue, with a two tone gray and black leather interior. The upgrades of the Special made ... Read More
Hi I'm new here. I just purchased a 2003 chrysler 300M Special last week and Love it. Haven't had any problems until today we were driving and all of a sudden the surged and started cutting in and out and the check engine light came on. We pulled over, then after a few minutes continued on our way. Then it never happened again and we were still an hour from home. ... Read More
I NEED HELP, PLS. I have been periodically experiencing problems with my 300M. The car "dies" when I am driving it and it is extremely worrisome when this occurs. The engine light comes on after this happens. I live in Southern FL and have taken it to different dealers for repair. The last time it was fixed the cam sensor was replaced. The car has been working for about a year ... Read More
This a bit old but, the reason for Chrysler only putting a dimming mirror on the drivers side is cost measure, they were trying to save money, but at the same time Chrysler was taking out options out of the newer 300M's, for example I have a 2003 Special M, mine does not have the passenger dimming side mirror, no courtesy lights on the front doors, just red reflectors, no lighted ... I had a 1999 300M and fell in love with the ground effects package of the 300M Special. I went to my body shop and asked if I could order all the parts from Chrysler to make my car look like a Special. I wanted to add dual exhaust pipes and the Special already has the cutouts for them in the rear bumper facia. I also wanted to upgrade the tail ... Read More
I have a 1999 Chrysler 300m. Only about 23K miles, but I had the same problems with the speakers. I just reglued the door speakers last night. $3.19 for the bottle of Goop. Dang Beastie Boys anyways. I had a problem with the passenger door window switch, not making good contact. The guy at the dealer just played with the switch and it has worked ever since. I had a problem ... Read More
Mine is a '99 with 178k miles. Things I've fixed so far: Fuel pump, brake rotors (front), electric cooling fans (they burned!), re-glued the speaker cones ($3.00 bottle of glue vs. $$$ for new speakers). Things that need to be fixed: Vacuum leak somewhere "out there", opaque headlight lenses (really bad). No window motor problems. I have had the cabin lights turn on by themselves maybe 3 times, which is really ... Read More
I'm thinking about purchasing a used '03 300M V6 w/autostick. It looks to be a very nice vehicle but I really don't know anything about Chrysler products as I've been GM for 25 years. Anyone out there have any opinions they are willing share good or bad with this particular model. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Jea
I have a 2003 300M, and I would like to install the 300M Special sideview mirrors that have the integrated side turn signal. I have been to my not so helpful local Chrysler dealer and they told me that the new mirrors are $400ea; and if different wiring harnesses are needed, the wiring will be an additional $900ea. Needless to say I almost fell over at the possibility of $1300 for ... Read More

Re gas mileage: My wife and I have had a total of 4 300M's. The first, a 2000, had an EPA rating of 18-26, but got better gas mileage than the 2001 @ 18-27. Similarly, the 2 2003's we know own, have the worst gas mileage of all. My 2000 would get about 22.2 on mixed freeway/city driving to L.A. The 2001 would get about 21.3 for the same driving. My ... I got an unpleasant surprise yesterday. My 2003 300M (9,500 miles) got a flat tire at work. I called Chrysler roadside assistance to change the tire (as I have done at least twice before with previous Chrysler/Dodge products). I was told that, beginning with the 2003 vehicles, roadside assistance was no longer available for flat tires! I would think that probably 50% of vehicle disablements would probably be due to ... This appears to be one of the "light show" features of the 300M that many have experienced. It is impossible to intentionally duplicate, so it is a Chrysler service department's dream -- could not duplicate problem! Since it can't be duplicated, it has never (to my knowledge) ever been repaired in any 300M. Hence no TSB. Both my wife and I have experienced this in our past 300M's (2000 and 2001), ... Read More
In my previous posts about gas mileage, my major complaint was that the gas mileage on the 300M got worse from the 2000 to 2003 model years, while the smog index reduced from 1.00 to .48, which, I believe, would reduce the gas mileage. If changes were made to the engine to reduce gas mileage, I feel that the EPA gas mileage rating should be changed accordingly. One other unfavourable variable ... Read More
My leased 2000 300M got great gas mileage. When I turned it in, I bought a 2003 M. My wife recently got a new (demonstrator) 300M to replace her 2001, which was totalled. We have both noticed that the gas mileage has not been as good as the prior models (2000 & 2001). However, we have only 7,000 miles on each of the 2003's, so it may get a little better. ... Read More
"Those "bubble" Chryslers were arguably the most handsome line of cars on the road (still are?)." I agree 100%! A few weeks ago, we were looking for a replacement car for my wife (she totalled hers). Sorry to hear about your tranny. Yours is a real exception -- I haven't heard of 300M mechanical transmission failures. I wish you luck with Chrysler on the extended warranty issue. from beach15, topcut, and ottowrkr on my question about the 2004 300M. Chrysler is even decontenting the brochures! The 2003 300M brochure has no specification page...that's right, no measurements, capacities...nothing! How do they expect anyone to make a buying decision? I'm getting disgustet with the whole decontenting situationn It's precisely why I left Ford for Chrysler in 1998. Soon it will be adios Dieter & Co.
I recently picked up a 2003 300M brochure from the local five star and found that Chrysler has gone even further with its decontenting. Changes to the `03 M: 4-way power passenger seat (no longer 8-way) Rear headrests eliminated What do you all think of decontenting? I'd rather have them raise the price a few hundred bucks a year than start taking out features...
Well, the buyout on my 2000 M is just about exactly what the black book is according to the bank I leased through - not a D/C lease, a bank lease. DC LH cars' sale year to date has fell 30% to 50% precent!!!. What the 300M special is about, drop ZF trany , it is not about cost, it is about image!!!
Wow, those price cuts sure do rock. Starting MSRP for a 2002 300m is $28,995 with Destination while a 2001 $30,295. Gorsh, an Acura TL is $33,710! Hmmm it seems to me that everyone who is complaining about the 300m should either fork out the extra $5 grand for the imports or use that $5 grand for performance mods to make the 300m faster than any $34,000 Acura.
