Still Alive......
Written by: pster on Sep 24, 2003 8:14:49 AM
Been some time since I posted......my 1999 300M is still kicking and, knock on wood, running nicely. So I have delayed replacing it. Still putting 2 cans of refrigerant in A/C system every 2-3 months. Interestingly, the R124a will only go into the system with the can upside down, exactly opposite the instructions....works great when done that way. Anyone see the Newsweek article on DC this week? Pretty gloomy......Chrysler no longer ... Read More

Dashboard Cracks
Written by: whybuy1 on Sep 16, 2003 8:19:07 AM
Cracks are appearing in the dashboard of my wife's 1999 300M. They are on the passenger side and they could be along the edge of the passenger side air bag. They only continue to grow. Our dealer refuses to fix it, stating it is a "soft part" and therefore not covered under the warranty. The dealer also says their hands are tied and the only person who could reverse their decision ... Read More

New to Town Hall Discussion
Written by: quietflyer on Sep 6, 2003 6:59:53 PM
Hello, I bought a used 1999 300M back in April. It had 38,800 miles and looked great. It is deep cranberry with dark slate interior, 17" chrome wheels, sunroof. etc.. Since then I put new tires on it (Continental Contitouringcontact, P225/55R-17). I currently have 50,500 miles on it with NO problems. I change the oil and filter every 3,800 miles and have not had to do anything else. Most of my ... Read More

Quite simply, they were lying to you, as most auto dealers do. The claim that they had a high demand for 1999 300M's is a blatant lie - a sales tactic to suck you into the dealership and never let you leave until you have purchased a new Chrysler from their 100+ day inventory glut.

Written by: intrepidspirit on Jun 4, 2003 10:04:37 AM
You're absolutely right! Even when the 300M won Motor Trend's car of the year award in 1999, Chrysler was extremely hesitant to use this in any of their advertising. Also, the choice as one of Car and Driver's top 10 for two consecutive years went largely unnoticed by the marketing people. Today, a co-worker approached me to tell me what a great car the 300M is. He had rented one over ... Read More

Lonestar, I may have misled you on the prices for the O2 sensors. What I bought for less than $25 was for a GM 3.3 liter 6 cylinder that they were putting in the Buicks in the early 90s. I bought these at Strauss Discount Auto; a chain of about 100 stores in the NorthEast that does have very low prices at times. I just checked their website, but they don't ... Read More

Russ, I'm glad you have not had any problems whatsoever in 130M miles. Sorry you had to buy the extended warranties. Being in finance, I can assure you that "expectations" have as much influence over behavior as past performance. Consequently, I would expect you won't buy another extended warrantly contract? If you are.....I rest my case. Until Chrysler lowers the buying public's expectations of future failures and repair expenses, it hasn't ... Read More

Took my 99 with just under 50K miles on it in to the dealer this morning because of an intermittant "miss" in the engine. Turns out that despite the 100,000 between tuneups, mine is in need of a tuneup and a replacement of the throttle body. I also am having them replace the battery while I am at it. Total bill - $597. I think you are all correct. Blusky, my 300M is a 1999. I have called Chrysler - they're good listeners but basically said "we're sorry" (the Chrysler rep also asked me if I had "purchased an extended warranty contract - DUH). Great post; my sentiments exactly. My 2000 300M has circa 26,000 miles with no major problems, with the exception of the Goodyear tires. It is as solid as the day it was driven home, with no strange noises, squeaks, leaks, etc. There are alot of outstanding cars out there in the "near-luxury" class, but the 300M is the best combination of all the features one could want.
