2011 Chevrolet Volt 4dr Hatchback (gas/electric hybrid DD)
The Volt is a great mix of performance, technology and practicality.
The electric motor provides substantial torque which makes the car feel more powerful and responsive than most cars on the road.
On a single charge I am able to drive about 38 miles (mostly freeway driving).
That's enough to get me to and from work with a little juice left over.
However, the gas engine is a great backup if I need to take a longer trip.
I have driven almost 500 miles and only used 1.3 gallons of gas so far.
Charging is so easy.
The Volt comes with a charger you can plug into any standard electrical outlet.
The Volt interior has a modern styling with beautiful leather.
The two high resolution touch screens provide a highly intuitive interface with fancy graphics.
The Volt comes with 5 years free Onstar service.
You can use the iphone/android Onstar app to show you realtime charging % and details of your car.
If someone unplugs your charger unexpectedly, Onstar sends you a text notification.
The Volt is cheaper to drive to and from work than my Prius:
Round trip my Prius uses about .6 gallons of gas (50 MPG) X $3.45/gallon (current gas price) = $2.07 per day
Round trip the Volt uses 9 kwh x $.09/kwh (electric rate) = $.81
The Volt is the size of an ordinary sedan, but it would be nice if it was a little larger.
Maybe with the interior room of the Prius.
But that is more personal preference than a design flaw.
