I am dealing with the same issue. At first I thought it was an injector leaking down after shutoff but after further review, I discovered anti-freeze (very small amounts) in cylinder #1. There is a good chance it is a head gasket. This might sound a little crazy but when you first start it up stand at the back of the vehicle and smell the exhaust. If it is bruning anti-freeze ... Did you ever figure this issue out ? I have been having the same issue with my 2000 Chevy Venture (with the coolant light) and earlier today it died at a stop sign and now wont stay running... I replaced my fuel pump , filter and relay about 3,000 miles ago and can hear the pump click on... So im hoping that really isnt the issue again.

2000 Chevy Venture Starting Issue
Written by: tjh87 on Nov 27, 2011 5:47:47 PM
Hi, Thought I'd bring this here. My parents have a 2000 Chevy Venture with over 130k, that I also drive. Over the summer, an interesting starting issue began, and it doesn't happen very often. What happens is the car will start, idle very rough, then stall. It has happened after sitting 5 minutes, after sitting for 40, and it has happened after a 40 mile drive, and a 1-2 foot drive ... I was not driving the vehicle at the time but it was described as 'making loud noises' and 'bucking'. For a cold, rainy morning and a short drive the temperature guage was very high. And it seemed to make a loud noise and generate a great quantity of smoke and/or steam. It may have been its death throws, I don't know. I did determine that ALL the coolant was gone so ... Read More

For replacing fuel injectors on 3 cylinders, one guy just gave me a rough estimate of 3 hours of labor, head gasket and fuel injectors. He said he has never had to replace fuel injectors on a 3.8 litre engine. I told him I was getting spark but in fact I don't really know that for sure. Is 3 hours and parts a reasonable estimate?

After the 1st couple of bottles you basically can rule out that it will fix the issue, but its at least somewhere to start... Can fuel injectors be manually cleaned rather than chemically cleaned?
