I need a front grille for my van. I have not found one in the junk yards better than the current one yet. The venture was manufactured from 1997 through 2005. Can anyone tell me how many years are interchangeable? I would like to stick with the Chevy part. Many thanks to all.
1997 chevy venture idle perfect then drives 6-9 blocks when its cold, then it stalls and bog and turns off i have to pull over start up sometimes right away or sometimes i have to sit for a minute or 2 then it will start then drive a block or two and stall and bog out again i change fuel & air filter i dont know whats up it has 103,000 ... The engine is called a LA1 by GM. That engine fits a bunch of front wheel drive vehicles I noted in my post from 1997-05. The transmission for the first Venture/Silhouette/Montana vans were called 4T60E. In 1999 GM went to a 4T65E. The differences were a bigger torque converter (245mm to 258mm), different internal electronics, different final drive gearing and different valve body. None of that changed the configuration of the ... Read More
I installed a 2000 Venture engine in my 1998 Venture. I had to strip the new engine down to the block and heads and reuse most of the original parts such as exhaust manifold, intake manifold w/fuel injection system, all sensors and engine mounts. The vehicles below use the LA1 engine that are probably interchangeable with some exceptions. In the case of the transmission, the same transmission was used in the ... Read More
I had this exact problem on my 1997 Chevy Venture. Stalling, no codes, no other apparent problems. I solved the problem by replacing the Camshaft Position Sensor. The sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine near the top. You have to remove a lot of stuff to get to this simple sensor, but it worked. Now I have no more stalling, failing to start or other related anomalies. ... Read More
I am having problems with my 1997 Chevy Venture....after checking out wiring...I bypassed the fuse box & hooked up the fuel pump direct...the pump is working, and there is lots of spark however the van still won't start...can someone tell me what the problem might be.
Angie, I'm having same relay issue. Did you ever figure it out?
I am looking at a 2005 Chevy Venture, it's the LS model, long wheelbase, with cloth seats, the 3400 engine, and 192K miles. I've talked the guy down to about $2400 and I'm comfortable paying that, but I want to know what problems the 2004-2005 owners have been having. Was the intake manifold gasket problem licked by then? Are the transmissions still having PCS solenoid failures? Do the fuel pumps still ... Read More
figured it out after having the ignition module check out. It was fine. I got so aggravated I tore wiring harness apart and found broke wire between pcm and under hood fuse box. All good now. Running like new.
my van quit running while I was driving it. The fuel pump relay (x4), fuel pump and PCM have been replaced. Van still wont start. If you jump start the fuel pump the van will run perfectly as long as there is fire going to it. I can't find out the reason why I cant get fire thru my relay to the fuel pump. The relay doesn't click when the van ... Read More

Does anyone know the wheel well size on a 97 Venture? I kno 22" wheels will fit, but im not sure of the maximum wheel width that it can have without rubbing.
I am having the same problem with my 1997 Chevy Venture. How did you resolve the problem on your van.
Many people look to used American vehicles as a value play. Save a bunch by not paying for new vehicle depreciation and pay less than used comparable Japanese brands. Of course, this assumes the car you are getting used is reliable in order for it to be a good value. Herein lies the problem with the GM minivans. The high number of TSBs relates to engineering or design or manufacturing defects ... Read More
I have a 1997 Chevy Venture and the passenger power window will go down but will not go up, I have replaced the motor and the switch on the driver side and now I am at a loss of what to do? Please HELP ME!! Thanks for your time.
Just bought a 1997 chevy venture - didn't pass inspection due to Hazard light. The hazard light switch isn't working properly. When I push it down it pops back up. The Hazards don't come on at all. however, When I hold the button down (and don't let go) only the passenger side flashes. The Inside directionals do not flash when I hold it down. However, Directionals work no problem. Any Ideas? ... Read More

I have done LOTS of research on this van because of the recent problems I am having. If you type in GM intake manifold gasket in any search engine, you will see MANY posts about the defective gasket in numerous GM vehicles including the Venture from 1997 - 2003. Not sure if there are problems after 2003. I have a 97 Chevy Venture. It has been overheating on me. I brought ... Read More
I've had to have the gaskets replaced in my venture twice. The first time it was covered under my extended warranty and the only out of pocket expense to me was $25.00 deductible, but also did not include having to replace the entire engine. The most recent time was July of 2003, this time unfortunately wound up having to pay for a new engine. Total cost $4,400.00... I was over my ... Read More
Use an electronics parts cleaner on the connection, and use bulb grease on your bulbs, as well as the connector pins. It seems to help - the aluminum parts inside the brakelight assembly are prone to corrosion. The ground likes to heat up and melt, causing the same problem you are having. Mine got so flakey that my cruise stopped engaging - the cruise disengage is on the same circuit, and ... Read More

I have a 1999 Chevy Venture with electrical problems. When car brake is applied the left blinker flashes faster, also when car is in reverse brake filament of the bulbs dims and all other bulbs light up. When right blinker is on dashboard flasher indicator (left) lights up with brakes on. Also ABS lights goes on and off, seems to be only in reverse. Any suggestions on how to fix.
hi, just wanted to let you know that it sounds like your alternator is bad. but without properly testing you really cant be sure.. and when you say your ABS light comes on even when your not using it? You are always using your abs unless its disabled.. its probably a wheel speed sensor going bad or not getting enough voltage... that will turn on your light. your brake light will ... Read More
Have the alternator and battery checked. Also there is a TSB on a ground connection on the alternator for these GM minivans. Check to make sure this has been done.
I have a 1997 Chevy Venture, which I have started having a few problems with lights dimming and the electrical system in general. I do have an amplifer and subwoofers added on to the system as well as an aftermarket cd player which can account for a total addition of 35 amps to 45 amps of draw. When my subs are turned up all of the way they do tend to ... Read More

I owned a 1997 Chevy Venture Extended Wheelbase with the power sliding door and loved it dearly. Decided to go shopping around last month for a trade in and when looking at the 2001 models, came across some new Oldsmobile Silhouettes on the lot. I had 2 Ventures (1997 & 1999). Both were good cars in general. The second one I got more bells and whistles on it (automatic rear door and trip computer). Can't believe there are no posts here about 1998 Venture engine problems. They said the start of their problems was a noisy engine at startup, which the one I was going ... Read More
