Motor Oil leak
Written by: tracker52 on Apr 18, 2008 8:32:25 AM
I am the new owner of a 2002 2WD chevy tracker with 68,000 miles on the V-6 motor. I drove it to work a few days and noticed a bad oil leak. Is this common on this motor or what might cause it. I have no history on the vehicle pryor to me owning it. It does run good and didn't notice any thing unusual.

Is the "freon" that you mention R134a? I noticed when I tried to put in a can of R134a, the seal around the intake hose didn't seal well. I'm about 2 minutes from getting rid of the 2002 Chevy Tracker and getting something more reliable.

my 2002 Chevy Tracker (Suzuki Vitera) had a transmission problem (5 speed Manual) at about 65K, it was getting noisy and whining. I had purchased the extended waranty and the dealer put in a new trany, Now about a year 1/2 later I am having the same trouble again at about the same miles. It is also jumping out of 4th after the clutch is released. Is there a known problem ... Read More

The compnay I work for in New Jersey, has a sister plant in Ingersoll as well. Back in 2002 the area business's had tours of their facilities and then a goupr question and answer period over lunch. Anyway I was up there at the time CAMI was giving their tour and I went along and saw the entire operation. The Tracker and Vitara/Grand Vitara are the same vehicle, built with the ... Read More

Re: 2002 valve seal problem [razap]

Your sparkplugs could have well been fouled, but with carbon build-up, not oil. Especially if you do a lot of short trips or your sparkplugs were replaced with ones that run too cool. If your oil consumption is low, it's not your valve stern seals. Insert your prayer of thanks here. As for your last question, all Chevrolet Trackers are Suzuki Grand Vitaras' or Vitaras' in disguise depending on trim level. ... Read More

2002 valve seal problem
Written by: razap on Mar 29, 2006 4:10:29 PM
I have a 2002 tracker with 47,000.00. The car wouldn't start one day and a chevy dealer told me the plugs were fouled. The dealer is telling me I need a valve seal replacement. I have owned it since 10,000.00 mile and it has not seen rough miles. Has anyone experienced this problem at this low mileage? What can one expect to pay for the repair? Thanks

If you look at the Suzuki Grand Vitara posts there was a problem with the timing chain tensioners from 1999-2002 approx. The fix is over $1000 at the dealer. Someone posted instructions and pictures of the problem and how to fix. I do not remember what post number it is.

2002 Chevy Tracker rear drum breaks.
Written by: rwlardin on Oct 22, 2005 12:07:51 PM
I need to change the rear breaks on my tracker. The drum is stuck. Does anyone know the size of the bolts for the puller on the drum and the thread count. Also are they for a puller or to screw in and push off the drum. Either way I can do it. Also are there any other things I should know?

SHOULD I BUY ONE?
Written by: frenchcar on Aug 14, 2003 8:24:48 PM
Why not buy one? The Trackers and Sidekicks and later the Vitarra are all built by Suzuki and some of them in the joint GM -Suzuki plant in Canada. They have been around since 1989 and we have owned 6 or 7 of them between myself, my wife and son. The 4 door is very handy and a nice size and economical for this type vehicle. I recently purchased a 2002 Chevy Tracker. Immediately I noticed that when it rained I get water leaking around the door. The water collects on the plastic cover of the rocker panels and then drips onto the carpeting. This happens on all four doors. The dealer replaced all the weather stripping but to no avail. Water is still coming in the door and onto the rocker panel. Is anyone else having ... Read More

I know it has remote keyless entry - but is there any alarm that comes with it? Re.. 2002 Tracker Question

I remember when the XL-7 came out, Suzuki said there would not be a Chevy version. Seems that Chevy is getting ANOTHER new, small SUV ready, in addition to the Tracker. Possibly based on the new Colorado (S-10) pickup.

I think chevy should also get a larger version of the tracked based on the SUZUKI XL7 because i feel that more people will buy a chevy rather than a suzuki even though they are the same car, and that is whats happening with the Viatura/Tracker

Hey, trifivenomad. I am a student at UT here in Knoxville. I have a 2000 Suzuki Vitara 4dr 4wd fully loaded which is pretty much the same car as the Tracker except for some cosmetics. I just did not like the grille and headlights on the Tracker at all. Also, while Suzuki changed the name of this SUV to Vitara, Chevy left the Geo-oriented Tracker label on their vehicles. Thus, reminding ... Read More

I am interested in buying a 2001 Tracker. My local Chevy dealer in Knoxville, TN is the best. I have no concerns about getting help from the service department, if needed. I am concerned about wasting money on an SUV that will be a long-term disappointment. I want to buy something that will last and will be fun to drive. Does anyone know if the 2002 Tracker will be significantly different ... Read More
