Chevrolet Tracker Rusted Crossmember Subframe

  • Special GM Extended Warranty

Written by: gerles on Apr 29, 2011 8:23:05 PM

I'm in the snowbelt in Montreal where salt is heavily used on the roads in winter. I recently bought a 2002 2 dr. ZR2 Tracker 4wd, with only 60k kilometers on it expressly for a little fun driving in the winter and light offroading. After reading several threads about the stiff steering problem(I do need to change the lower intermediate steering shaft), I stumbled upon frequent mentions of the rusted subframe. ... Read More

I have a 2002 Chevy Tracker. Recently began feeling a vibration when I let off the gas and a metallic clunking noise when shifting as well as taking off and stopping. Was told it may be a u-joint but when I had a friend look at it he drained the rear differential and found it milky with metal shavings. Brought it in to the shop and they said the problem is ... Sounds like I have the same problem. This has stumped more than a few mechanics already. I'm sure the solution is something simple, but nobody can find it. I've got a 2001 Chevy Tracker (aka Vitara). 2.0L, automatic, A/C, power everything. Occasionally the interior fan and running lights will stay on, even after I have shut off the vehicle and removed the key. This only happens during extended periods of really ... Read More

Now as a guess with no info: There is no drain in any of the side panels. If leaking under the door panels it is possible that trash has come through the window opening (with window down or glass ... The oil change place checked it out and is pretty sure it is the oil pump. Just wondering if anybody ever had this problem and how much it costs them.

If your oil consumption is low, it's not your valve stern seals. Insert your prayer of thanks here.
