Review of the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker

  • With its cheap plastic interior, unrefined ride, and gawky styling, the Tracker just doesn't compare with more modern mini-utes like Ford's Escape or Toyota's RAV4.

  • Pros

Low price, available six-cylinder engine, rugged ladder-frame construction.

  • Cons

Weak base engine, meager cargo space.

Surprising

I figure this would be a weak little starter vehicle, but it turned out to be a comfortable, very spacious, spunky little SUV. Not much luxury but all the necessities, and very, very reliable.

I just love my little Tracker. She is fun to drive and has more room inside than I expected, especially when you sit the back seats up straight. The only thing I would have changed would be to have her pull more weight.

I looked around a lot before I decided on this vehicle. It is fun to drive, looks great, and is getting great gas mileage. No rattles, smooth on bumpy roads, and the audio system is great! The air conditioner works well and quickly. The engine is very accessible, which should help with labor costs down the line. Water, power steering pumps are easy to get to, and the stabilizer bar over the engine is a good feature.
