I have a 2001 Chevy Tracker with a soft top. I don't have an issue the the soft top itself (I bought a replacement a few years back. My problem is that my husband and brother in-law broke the plastic framing (I guess?) that attaches the side windows to the car itself. Not sure that is the best description, but hopefully some one can help me figure out if and where ... Read More
GM Customer Service has not responded to 3 separate inquiries from me. I own a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker purchased new... and impeccably serviced. Consequently it was quite a surprise to me when recently the vehicle began pulling sharply to the left upon braking. I scheduled immediate service and my mechanic informed me that a part called a "crossmember" was entirely rusted through and could have actually fallen completely off while the ... Read More

Hello, new to forums, but wanted to post a question. I have heard mixed information about the capacity of the Chevy Tracker. I have a 2001 and want to put a lightweight plow ( approximately 250 lbs.) on the front end. Visually, the frame looks pretty decent. Has anyone heard of disaster stories with the front end of the tracker? Thanks.
I apoligize for not contacting you sooner ... I can't help you much in the mechanic deptartment (been out of it for over 50 years!) but I can speak from experience on my 2001 Chevy Tracker. You may have seen my eariler posts when my timing chain broke on mine at 120,000 mile!? This is what I learned/experienced: The engine is considered what is called a "Zero Tolerance" engine. There is ... Read More
Going to leave our 2001 Chevy Tracker 4x4, 2 dr. soft and hard top in Mexico this winter. I have driven it back and forth between Ontario Canada and Mex. 3 times. Now I am going to leave it there. I am aware that this post is some months old, but felt compassion for the poster, having "been there, done that, got the t-shirt". And maybe this information will help someone else. Don't be so sure that those other Trackers have not had the engine replaced. I am still driving my Tracker since I could not afford to buy a replacement vehicle, I had to go with the replacing the engine. ... Read More
i have a 2001 tracker 2.0 L engine with 80,000 miles. i had the same issue with the engine failing to start. i checked this message board, and others, and tried the water spray on the camshaft sensor and it did the trick. after performing the troubleshooting steps and confirming the sensor was bad, replaced it. runs like a champ now. there was never a check engine light nor trouble code. ... I would like specific instructions on how to replace the driver side exterior door handle on a 2001 Chevy Tracker. The part is on it's way, and I would like to know how difficult it will be to replace (seemed relatively easy to break it! LOL!) I have power locks, if that makes any difference in the installation.
If you can't get one at the Chevy dealer try the Suzuki dealer.
I am looking for a clutch fork for a 2001 chevy tracker and am having a hard time finding one. Does anyone know where i can get one?
For anyone that cannot find a replacement front and/or rear door handle, the following link I found for a comparable replacement part: http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?D=door+handle&Ntt=door+handle&Dx=mode+matchallpa- rtial&Ntk=Main&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=1721+4294963442&Nty=1 These parts are for Susuki comparable models to the Chevy Tracker series. Since the Tracker is a Susuki based model the parts are an exact replacement. I had to replace the front driver side door handle on my 2001 4-door tracker. Price for the part was very ... Read More
Definitely check your owner's manual. My 2001 2.0 liter Tracker has a 5.5 quart oil capacity. Not sure if that .5 is for the oil filter.
Whilst built by Suzuki, I have little faith in this 2001 vehicle. My problems have stemmed about a bent standard transmission shift plate that cost me $1800 even though under warantee, a replaced rear axle and pinion gear due to faulty operation, a new A/C compressor due to faulty clutch ($1000 CAD), and now I am getting very loud gear whine again - think it's ready for another axle (perhaps front) ... Tecc10, Yes, the 2001 Chevy Tracker does have a cabin filters on the passenger side of the vehicle. The filters are located behind the glove box (aka glove compartment). Open the glove box to reveal the compartment. Empty the contents of the compartment to ... Read More
I have the same issue with my 2001 Chevy Tracker 2.0 liter. Check Engine Soon light on most of the time. Can some give the actual part name for this "pig tail valve"? Tracking it down with this type of name does not make it easy. Thanks, Bill Colwell

I recently purchased a 2001 Tracker 2-wheel drive, 2L automatic. The vehicle has w/104K miles on it. Itís been well cared for but... It would not turn over. A friend who works at a Chevy garage came to look at it before taking to his home for repairs. Just talking from my experience ... The "engine accessory drive belt" is the External belt on the engine that drives the A/C compressor, alternator and the the power steering/brake pumps. The timing belt I talked about is inside the engine (internal)and runs from the crankshaft up ... Read More
Hi, SNichol here with an update... My mechanic found a USED 2001 engine in Beaumont, Texas with low mileage on it. (They couldn't say what actual miles are. We took a chance...) I am experiencing the same problem with my 2001 Chevy Tracker. Did you get a final answer to that problem? Please, if so help me. Thanks
No, per the NHTSA defects investigation report it pertains to 1999 to 2001 Chevy Trackers and the crossmembers were designed and made by Suzuki. It says that there was insufficient corrosion protection, and that in March of 2006 they made design changes to enhance the coverage of paint to the inside of the part.
My heater core just went belly up and leaked anti freeze all over the right front floor. It is a 2001 model. Is this normal? Is there a recall for these cores? How long a waranty does a tracker have. It cost me $700 at the chevy dealer. I'm not a happy camper.
Just returned from a 400 mile trip that took me over the Cascade Mountains here in Oregon. First tank 27.2 MPG going to my destination, second tank returning 30.1 MPG. 2001 2.0 4 cyl, auto transmission. Just me in the vehicle, air conditioning running the entire time, never over 65 MPH, 215/70 15's 40PSI in the tires.
I have a 2001 4dr with the 2.0 4 cylinder with the automatic transmission. It has over 115K on it. To answer your first question their is no reason why a Tracker should not give you 200K with regular maintenance. The 2.0 doesn't have too much power with the automatic and anything over 65 MPH is pushing it. But it does deliver great fuel mileage. I have regularly gotten over 30 ... Read More
