Summary

What Edmunds.com says

With room for up to nine passengers, gutsy V8 engines and a long list of available options, it's no wonder the Tahoe is the best-selling full-size sport-ute on the market.

Pros

Strong engines, roomy and versatile interior, numerous available amenities.

Cons

Spotty build quality, interior materials could use improvement.

What's New for 2004

Chevrolet offers revised 16- and 17-inch aluminum wheels, and 17-inch all-season tires are now optional on LT models. Other new features include a tire-pressure monitor and Hydroboost brakes that provide more reserve stopping power and decreased pedal effort, according to Chevrolet. A traction assist feature is available on two-wheel-drive Tahoes equipped with a locking rear differential. The trailering package includes a 7-to-4 pin brake wiring adapter. Finally, for added safety, there is now a front-passenger seatbelt reminder.

Review

Bought new in Nov 03. Always loved it. PLENTY of pick up - really gets up and out of it's own way on the highway. We don't use the 3rd row often - can be a pain to install quickly (and store). No blind spot to speak of at al. Also remember having odometer replaced as a warranty issue. Small things here and there but overall a totally reliable, amazing car.

Favorite Features

I live in the Northeast and we ski alot - Love the push button 4WD. Always know where my car is in parking lots - it's always the tallest.

Suggested Improvements

Beige leather really picks up color from dark denim jeans - also wore/tore on driver seat. More 2nd row leg room.

Review

I now have 85k miles on this tahoe. Mechanically, it is in perfect condition! Only repair was the 4wd system sensor: $700. Cosmetically, I keep it washed and waxed and am amazing how it still turns heads. I drive Pacific Coast Highway every day, and to the mountains or river every weekend. I have absolutely not concern that this vehicle will make it to 250k miles if cared for properly. This is the best SUV for the money.

Favorite Features

The interior (people who says it cheap, go look at Ford Expedition). The 4wd system is great.

Suggested Improvements

Needs more power. I've noticed a stumbled between gears when the engine is underload. Drive's seat wears quickly.

I Bought brand new,I just love how it seems to have a button for your every comfort need. The only thing in over five years was it stated making clicking sounds when in park or drive, drove it for about 4000 miles before I got it checked out,it was the starter going out. But it never fail me! I would buy again this SUV Wonderful vehicle. I am only selling do to the fact my kids are gone in collage, and I don't need this large SUV anymore. :(

Favorite Features

Leather heated seats, My SUV is fully loaded. This would to say the lease would take all day...... wonderful, beautiful SUV Everything is my favorite.

Review

Bought the truck new in 04 and now it has 136,000+ miles but the first 30,000 weren't trouble free. In the first 30,000 half the engine had to be rebuilt, it overheater numerous times, and some electrical components shorted- out. Also the 4wd gave out right after the warranty ended, and also the water pump had to be replaced at 100k and the windshield wiper fuild motors. Also the Speedometer doesn't work anymore and it is a recall that the dealers won't honor. Although after the 30k make the truck has held up well mechanically. The exterior has held up great and the interior as well with the exception of the paint coming of the radio dials. Normal leather seat wear. Next car will be a ford.

Favorite Features

bose stero system, leather has held up quite well for the amount of miles, plenty of power, and Onstar. Good truck once it was finally fixed properly.

Suggested Improvements

needs much better reliability, needs independent rear suspension, needs fords usable and power third row fold flat seats, GM needs to step up their quality if they want to survive in this tough car industry
