I hate to hear about your problem. Believe me I can understand your frustration. I had an 07 that was like flipping a coin if it was going to be dead or not. Hi! I just purchased a 2007 Chevrolet suburban in June with 72,000 miles on it. 1 month later my transmission went out. They covered it and put in a "rebuilt" transmission...no problems since...knock on wood. A week after I bought it though it felt funny when I would take a right hand turn. I took it in and they said nothing was wrong. I just put new tires on it and ... Read More
I had to have my transmission replaced. $3000 with a 3 year warranty. There is a systemic problem with these transmissions and Chevy will not own up to it - unless you get to executive escalations and say you are going to buy a new vehicle from Chevy. I opened up a case already and was told not just No, but Hell No, by both the rep and the supervisor. So I called GM Executive Escalations and registered my concerns. I just opened a case (71-944-296379) with Chevrolet. Basically they said my vehicle is TOO OLD. It doesn't matter that there was a catastrophic metal failure on a vehicle with only 74K miles (or as John - the person I spoke with at Chevrolet customer service - said " a metal rubbing on fluid problem"). Even the service writer, Craig, at the local dealer said that the failure was unusual at ... Read More

I asked if 74K miles was all a transmission should last and he said that it should last longer. I have a 2000 suburban w/ 4WD. My rear rotors deteriorated on the inside only at around 40,000 miles. I replaced the rotors and pads and the same thing happened at around 100,000. The front rotors and pads lasted past 130,000 miles with the same wear pattern- deterioration of the inside only of each rotor. A Chevy mechanic at the dealer says he sees this a lot.
Guidance is to get it to a shop for repair, sounds like head gasket has a problem, if I understand your symptoms correctly from your description. The fact that you can see it, would be an easy diagnosis for a trained mechanic. Get it out for some estimates.

Need to check fuel pressure to verify if the pump is good or not.
Where do you live? First off, I've changed 2 alternators in the past 3 years in my '96... might be the cause of the dead battery. Otherwise, check for a light staying on, ie glove-box, under the hood...? You don't say if you changed the fuel pump, (low pressure) but I'd be looking for a gas line leak, sucking air, somewhere. I live on Long Island, in NY, and ordered my 2001 Tahoe from www.marchantchevy.com in S. Carolina because they are a $98 over invoice dealer and beat all the locals by at least $1000. It's an LS 4x4, all I added was skid plates, tow pkg, 373 rear, and Chevy mudflaps all around. The front bench seat and rear liftgate were free options back then. It arrived in Nov 2000, and ... Here's a rare shot of all three generations of "Potagold". The '92 Blazer has since been sold, and hopefully made it's young new owner very happy at Christmas 2000. The '80 van finally left my driveway after 21 years of ownership in Sept. '01. The '01 Tahoe remains unchanged, except for addition of a set of Westin "Platinum CPS" step bars. Here's a shot of the van taken during it's glory ... Read More
Clunking in the steering appeared when the remake of the Tahoe/Yukon was introduced. I would think that GM had rid themselves of all the clunky shafts. It appears not. Maybe its a numbers game or design flaw as some have had to change the shaft more than once. Here is the service bulletin on it...note the date and though it says for recirculating ball type found on 4x4's, it also applies ... Read More

Hi all, I have a 2001 Tahoe. I've noticed that while driving on roads that have drainage crackes or just cracke on them causes a vibration in the steering wheel. It's very slight however, my wife does'nt feel it but it drives be crazy. For a $40k vehicle I expect it to feel a lot more solid. Chevrolet had problems on the 2000 model saying that the steering shaft had sound ... Read More
The Firestone LEs, that were specified as "all-terrains" in all of the paperwork when I ordered the truck, but are really "all-Seasons". When I caught Chevy on it, their response was pretty much "tough %^&*, we're Chevrolet and can call things what we want to call them." I also have had it with several area Chevy service departments. I had a 97 Blazer, that had to have it's transmission rebuilt twice, ... Read More
Anyone owning a Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 care to share your experience with this 4WD SUV, such as gas mileage, towing, maintenance, etc.
I've been waiting 14 months since the Z71 Tahoe (new body) was first shown on the brochure in March 2000. Last Saturday I bought a pewter "Z" for $250 under invoice after rebate. Headbanger, in response to your question on the Z option, it's an LS base with a bunch of add on stuff to let you run off-road. Stuff like a special heavy duty roof rack,Bilstein shocks, skid plates, limited ... Read More
I've been shopping around in my area (Little Rock, Arkansas) and have found I can buy a Tahoe LT 4x4 for under invoice ($2000 under at one dealership). I called my hometown dealership to find out how they are doing it, and they told me that through May 31 Chevrolet is giving the dealers "dealer cash" to do with as they see fit. It's not a rebate; it's more like dealer ... Read More
I bought a 2000 Tahoe last fall, and twice this year I have experienced a loss of braking. This is not a fading of brake power, but a complete loss of stopping power. Both times were on clean dry roads, on very slight hills. The last time was exiting from a highway. The Tahoe slowed well from highway speed to about 5-10 mph. At that point the braking just disappeared. I ... Read More
My truck is 1 year old this month. What a great vehicle. Only had one problem, a rattle in the steering wheel. The upper steering shaft assy had to be replaced. It took the dealer less than 1 hour to fix. Thats it. At about 8000 miles had a high quality synthetic motor oil change. Oh boy! What a difference! Ten times smoother at idle, acceleration, starting.... magnificent. Highly recommend it.... ... Read More
In response to numerous posts I would like to comment on my recent experience ordering a 2001 Tahoe. First I fully utilized the Edmund's option page and "built" the vehicle I wanted. I then called about 7 or 8 dealerships in my area, gave them my option list and asked for their best price. All responded and I did business with the lowest bidder. I never left home until the order ... Read More
After 7 months and 16k on my '00 Tahoe LT 4wd, a few observations about overall quality. Compared to the prev. generation, the engineering of the new body style is light years ahead. My '97 Suburban needed brakes and rear axle replacement and the overall body structure was quite loose and rattle prone. The 2000 is a very tight, rigid platform much less prone to the shaking and vibration of the ... Read More
