I've owned for over 10 years, great for the family, boat and overall workhorse. Only wished I had purchased the larger Suburban. Chevy should build all thier car/trucks this well.

We call her "BIG RED"
Vehicle
1996 Chevrolet Tahoe 4 Dr LT 4WD Wagon
Review
She is a beauty & a real tall truck with big tires. I love my truck! I can never wait to drive it. We have 4 cars, so this one's dedicated to towing RV. The tires and the huge engine result in some poor mileage from this gas engine when towing. Hwy 2, Washington State is a real hard pull for anything less than a mighty diesel, but Big Red handles the job quite fine. We get about 9 mpg for that tough pull. Hiway we get 14 mpg but the monster tires r 2 blame. This is one sexy truck that gets looks everywhere I go. Both men & women try to catch a glance of what is behind the limo tinted glass with the real big bass. We'll invest money in her & keep her 4-ever! This truck rocks.
Favorite Features
Big tall beefy look - the new ones are too round or "soft" looking. My sister has the 2003 and it sounds beefy but looks a little sissy-like and the new style just doesn't look right with the suspension lift on it.
Suggested Improvements
None other than I wish I could wiggle my nose and get better mileage. My friends 2006 loaded top of the line 4x4 only gets 16 mpg on the hiway so 14 in my modified '96 isn't so bad.
Love my Tahoe

I have owned my Tahoe for about 2 years. I absolutely LOVE it. The previous owner really rode it hard but she is still truckin'. I had to put a rebuilt trany in her when I bought her but I've had zero problems outside of the normal wear and tear. I just had a baby and I call her my rad mommy wagon. You won't catch me behind the wheel of a minivan. Her interior trim rattles inside at highway speeds and the windshield pops everytime I shut the door. The rear wiper desides when it wants to work and the paint on the top center of the hood is peeling. The CD player will not play when the truck is cold. All very minor problems that are easily corrected.
Favorite Features
The power in the pedal is awesome!! My model has the tailgate instead of the more popular rear doors. Believe it or not I like this arrangement better.
Suggested Improvements
Gas mileage is mediocre but expected. The current gas prices are hurting though but that's not the truck's fault.
Seems like a "One of a kind" SUV

We bought it new, and it still looks like new, on the outside. Even though it's 9 years old, it makes rattling noises like a rattlesnake inside. The exterior looks like a classic, well- built beauty! As for the interior, seems that Chevy ran out of money, and put cheap plastic everywhere. What's with the sound system anyway? It sounds like all of the speakers are blown. Has anyone had trouble with the rearview mirror? The mirror keeps falling off of the windshield.
Favorite Features
Points to Chevy for making a classy exterior, built for towing.
Suggested Improvements
Better quality interior would have been nice, better sound, and better glue for the mirror. Tighten those screws better for less rattling

I always wanted a Tahoe, and luck was on my side at my local dealer. An older getleman traded a 1996 Tahoe in for a new one. The vechicle only had 36,000 actual miles! It has been a very good and pleasant experience so far. The mileage is about 17mpg which is pretty good. The only big problem was a miss it developed. It took the dealer several days to find the problem which turned out to be a bad plug and wire. The computer stated it was a misfire and the plug was the last thing checked. It runs fine now and is a joy to drive.

Have had to replace parts of the transmission three different times in the last two years. Head gasket replaced twice in same time. Timing chain replaced. EGR valve gone bad twice, and replaced 3 of 4 o2 sensors and still have trouble. Other than that, we like our Tahoe.

I purchased this truck/suv based on the look, but was soon won over by the power and versatility of this truck/suv. It has done everything I have asked it to do, and more. I regularly pull a 1989 24' travel trailer with it and it has not problems doing so. I thought the Tahoe would have problem with such an old heavy trailer, but it doesn't.
Favorite Features
Seating comfort.
Suggested Improvements
Bring the 2 door back!!!! The market for a full-sized SUV, but with 2 doors, is wide open.
Solid Vehicle (so far)

I've owned this vehicle for 2 year and other than corrosion on the + battery cable it has been a champ inside and out. Now at 60k miles it's developed a "whine" that appears to be coming from somewhere in the engine compartment so I'm holding my breath a bit...wondering. I've run across some vehicles I'd like to own but I just can't justify letting go of what has been such a reliable SUV. I'm crossing my fingers for another good 60k miles.
Favorite Features
Nothing specific, just a good, solid truck.
Suggested Improvements
I believe that crappy elastic that was attached to the visors is gone in the newer models. Better rear A/C control (which I believe was also added).

I love the comfort and stlye and the power comes in real hande when you need it,towes very well.my truck has 220,000 miles with a new motor{rebuilt} and the only thing that broke was my rear end but after 220,000 miles I paid the $1,500 to repaire it and never looked back and tow a 4,500 pound boat with no promblem, but this truck is a gas sucker but it handles and does so much work for you I won't sell mine.

I bought a 2 door Tahoe LT used and have had it for 6 months now. I spent a total of around 2K in repairs & maintenance in the first two months of owening it. It needed these repairs and since then I haven't had any real problems (knock on wood). I love this car b/c i believe in Chevy & its gona be a classic Monster truck one day.
