Re: 2008 Suburban Door Lock Actuator Failures [sanfee]
Written by: btimes2 on Feb 11, 2012 8:39:31 PM
I bought a certified 2008 suburban and had 2 door actuators fail b4 the 40k warranty expired. 3rd one went out at 42 and dealership said there hands were tied n Because Chevy corporate reimburses them for warranty work. Now my 4th just went out tonight. I'm at 54k. This is obviously a known defect and it's very frustrating there is no recall. A 45000$ car with a .50cent part on ... Read More

This seems to be a major epidemic with Chevy's door lock actuators... I bought a 2009 Tahoe and we love our truck. Like the commercial Chevy runs deep in our family. We have bought a 2006 Trailblazer, 2009 Malibu, and my wife's baby the Tahoe. We're very disappointed with Chevy lately, how does two actuators go bad the same time. I know parts are supposed to be replaced on vehicles but ... Read More

2008 Chevy Suburban LZT Door lock fail
Written by: awilson76 on Jan 10, 2012 11:03:21 AM
At about 38,000 mile my suburban's driver door lock began to fail. I took it in to the dealer and discovered it was a $250 + repair. Shortly after that the drivers side passenger door began to fail and now all 4 doors are failing. So I am looking at about $1000.00 to repair all doors and it only has 42,000 miles on it. I am very disapointed in the craftsmanship ... Read More

Sarah, I have a 2008 Tahoe Hybrid (90,000 miles and off course out of warranty), and I have the same issue. Passenger door lock is not going up or down with remote. only works manually. My dealership is Mauer Chevrolet in Inver Grove Heights, MN. What do I need to do to get that repair covered or at least highly subsidised, without having to pay those crazy prices since we know ... 2008 Suburban Door Lock Actuator Failures
Written by: sanfee on Dec 6, 2011 8:56:38 AM
I have a 2008 Suburban which I purchased new. Earlier this year, I had a door lock actuator fail at 33K miles which was fixed under warranty. Last week, I had another actuator fail but now have 44K miles and out of warranty. In researching this, I see this seems to be a common issue (I am expecting the other 2 actuators to fail in the future). I called Sanborn Chevrolet ... Read More

Go to the dealer and have them update the BCM (Body Control Module) and also test the battery to see if it is bad. Also ask your dealer to check if there is a draw on the battery when the truck is shut off. I'm not convinced that updating the BCM is the final solution since my Tahoe had problems starting one time after updating its BCM (but I had left ... Read More

2008 Chevy Suburban will not start...beyond frustrated!

I am at my wits end here. I purchased a 2008 Chevy Suburban about 6 months ago. Up until about 10 days ago, it ran like a champ. The last week in a half, however, it will not start. I go out in the morning, and the lights, radio, etc. all work, but the car just will not start. Once it is hooked up to jumper cables, it starts right away. ... Read More

Christina, All went well - the actuator was replaced by the dealer in about 45 min without cost to me. While I do appreciate them stepping up, I remain concerned that it's just a matter of time until others fail and I'll have to pick up the tab. As a good employee, you need to try and help convince GM that this issue could play havoc on future sales. Many of ... Read More

I own a 2008 Chevy Tahoe that has similar door lock problems with two of the four locks. One of the locks was repaired in the first year. Now there are two that do not work and it seems obvious that there is some sort of defect. While this is a major inconvenience the danger of not being able to open the door in an energency is what scares me. Very ... Read More

Excellent username, calvinhobbes. I used to love that cartoon. Here's the information that you're looking for. GMAC's current base lease rate and residual value for a 36 month lease of any 2008 Chevrolet Suburban with 12,000 miles per year are 7.2% and 63%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 39 month lease are 7.2% and 62%. This truck's 48 month numbers are 7.2% and 55%. As you can see, GMAC ... Read More

Hi metro2. I would be happy to work up a lease payment on this truck for you. Keep in mind though that the $2,000 customer cash that General Motors is currently providing on the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban is not compatible with GMAC's special lease program. GM is providing a $1,000 owner loyalty incentive on the 2008 Suburban. Given the fact that you are taking advantage of GMS pricing, I suspect that ... Read More

Hi gpd219. You need to compare the selling price that you mentioned to this truck's full MSRP. That will show you how much of a discount you are being given on it. The selling prices of leased vehicles are negotiable, just as if you were paying cash for or financing them. If I was in the market for a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban right now, I personally would shoot for a selling ... Read More

You never mentioned how long you want to lease this truck for or what mileage allowance you need, so for now I will assume that you are interested in a 36 month lease with 15,000 miles per year. Thanks for the additional information, mikes4. OK, according to my calculations, if you were to lease a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban LTZ 4x4 that has an MSRP of $54,300 and a selling price of $46,800 through GMAC right now for 24 months with 15,000 miles per year, your zero down, pre-tax monthly payment would be around $684. The payment for an otherwise identical 36 month lease would be around $634. When negotiating ... Read More
