Review of the 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

  • The Excursion may be bigger, but that doesn't mean it's better. Unless you absolutely need the extra space, the Suburban is still our choice for the best all-around full-size sport-utility.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Choice of powerful Vortec V8s, cavernous cargo space, room for nine.

  • Cons

Gas guzzler, its massive size a liability in urban areas.

  • What's New for 2001

The self-proclaimed "king of the full-size sport-utility segment" was completely redesigned last year, yet 2001 still sees improvements to the powertrain. Chevy has upped the horsepower rating of the Vortec 6000 to 320, and 360 foot-pounds of torque is now made at 4,000 revs. A new 8.1-liter engine cranks out 340-horsepower at 4,200 rpm and 455 foot-pounds of torque at 3,200 rpm. You can maintain a relationship with your mechanic on a less intimate level, thanks to an increase in the recommended oil change interval from 7,500 miles to 10,000 miles.

Vehicle: 2001 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 2WD 4dr SUV (6.0L 8cyl 4A)

We purchased our Suburban used and we have nothing but wonderful things to say about this SUV other than the gas mileage. It is so solid and we feel very safe driving it. We have the 8.1 liter, no problems hauling. It is one tough vehicle.

I am the orignal ownwer of this vehicle. I have ensured this vehicle has met every scheduled mx as well as regular oil changes, At 85K a hose clamp gave way, 98K replaced window regulator and 101K AC compressor, new one has life time warranty. We travel exetensively and love traveling in the Suburban.

My Suburban has great power when I need it. It is as comfortable as a car, and has lots of room inside. It has been extremely dependable. I have not had any problems with it. I plan on keeping it for a long time. I would not drive any other SUV. It's solid and you feel very safe in it.
