Summary

What Edmunds.com says

Combining the styling elements of a late '40s Chevy pickup, the attitude of a muscle car and the fun of a roadster, the SSR is an entertaining answer to a question nobody asked.

Pros

Quick folding convertible hardtop, solid all-around performance, distinctive styling, generous luggage space.

Cons

Seats only two and yet weighs nearly 5,000 pounds, costs almost as much as a Corvette.

What's New for 2004

Introduced as a late 2003 model, Chevrolet's "Super Sport Roadster" is unchanged for its sophomore year.

I thought the truck was Bad when it first came out. The GM designers did their work on this one to create a unique ride. I almost bought a red 05 last year, but backed out. I started to look real hard for a clean one. I found one in my own backyard at Chase Chevrolet located in Stockton, Ca. I have driven the big engine and found that the small engine is just fine. I have owned many Chevy muscle cars in my day. Still i'm my geerage to this day are a stock 71 RS/Z28 350 LT-1 4 spd. A 67 Chevy II Nova with a 427/turbo 400 with 456 cogs. The black SSR i just bought is in pristine condition. I did not buy it for a hot rod, I bought it because it is a classy ride. The Heartbeat rides on

Favorite Features

The whole ride! I feel the black paint does this truck justice. It is a 2000 concept truck with a modern/old school flair and makes for a one of kind ride that has to be owned to understand the feeling that a SSR owner get's every time they sit behind the wheel and fires it up! My top is always down

Suggested Improvements

The cheap little plastic hood rod holder. How could the GM designers missed the boat on this item? Maybe a retro fit kit with the 05-06 hood gas struts? Oh heck..... I'll build them myself, after all.....They are not making SSR's anymore. That my friends, is a crime

Review

Purchased my SSR in September 2008, after seeing it at the Dealers, and just had to have it. Have seen them in the past, and thought they were just the kind of vehicle I needed to have. Traded in a 2004 Mini Cooper, same yellow in color, but not a color person. It was just what was available. This SSR does everything asked of it. Comfortable in long drives as well as down the street. Always attracts looks of envy, jealousy, or whatever. There are only 2 others in the whole county, so I know it still attracts attention. Don't plan on ever getting rid of it and even have it mentioned in my will as to who gets it.

Favorite Features

The body style, the room it has even though it does not look like it has much room. Very comfortable to drive. Hard to service.

Suggested Improvements

Make the Battery easier to service, charge and replace. Make parts more available and cheaper. One wheel is $863.00

Review

I have owned all types of car and trucks. In fact I have a 64' Chevelle, the SSR is the best. I drive it as a daily driver, mine is an 04' purple. I get some looks that is for sure, not so good in the snow but, it is still fast and fun.

Favorite Features

The styling it reminds me of a old truck, the cool thing is that I will be able to bring it to old car shows, like I used to bring my Chevelle because they are that popular.

Suggested Improvements

My door handle broke after 2 months, this is something that they should have thought that would be something to improve on
