Vehicle2013 Chevrolet Sonic LT 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 6A)
ReviewThe suspension is poor.
It does not soak up bumps well, or handle potholes well, producing a very uncomfortable ride.
Unless you are living in an area with beautifully paved streets and you drive on them all the time - this probably won't matter.
And also suspension is designed poorly - unstable. The car jolts left and right when hitting rough pavement, making me wonder what happens if you're on the expressway going fast and you run into this. I think the car is accident prone.
The 1.8 engine is noisy, lacks passing power,
and wind/road noise is excessive. The 1.4Turbo option quiets the engine noise somewhat and increases torque, but does nothing about the excessive road noise caused by poor insulation. This car is built a little but like the old suv's. Thin and high, rather than long and wide. The center of gravity is too high and too narrow instead of being low and wide. Test drive one yourself and see if i'm right.
On the plus, it's much better than the car it replaces - The Aveo. So if you liked that car, you'll love this one. Me, i'll skip it.
Now also think about this: this same 1.8 engine is being used in the much heavier chevy cruz LS also.
So do you think you should avoid that trim line?
If you decide on the cruz, opt for a higher model with the 1.4 turbo, but it's also much more expensive.
Best FeaturesEase of steering, braking and good visability.
Worst Featuresredo suspension and add sound insulation materials.

People tspirko2 is most probably a stooge for Chevy to try to dismiss my comments. I am not saying this is a bad car, it does have a lot of plus points. And i am not saying it is not a solid car as he is implying, but it has faults that you may or may not want to live with. Especially the way it becomes unstable by jolting left and right when hitting rough spots or decent bumps on the expressway. I personally certainly don't want a car with that and where a lot noise enters the cabin, and other faults I mentioned. As to safety with 10 airbags as tspirko2 says above: great I am glad. So you're very safe. But what happened to the car and how are you getting home??? Now people, If you make a note of everything in my evaluation on Edmunds com in the consumer reviews section of this vehicle, and test drive this car for yourself, then you can see for yourself who really doesn't know what they are talking about - I or tspirko2. And I am expecting more stooges like tspirko2 from Chevy to try to comment on this website, but test it yourself, don't listen to them or even me, and use your own judgment to evaluate it and see what you think and then buy or not buy. But know what you're getting. Also look at consumer reports review of this car, it's not a bad review, but they give it a lower number than many of it's competitors.Report it

I agree 100% with musicmitch. I have 20000 miles on my top of the line noise machine. Not worth the money for the noise. GM got real cheap here and again put out a rattle machine. Retired GM employee who is ashame of this product.Report it

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The Chevy Sonic is a solid car, 138 HP, & a safety rating second to none (10 air bags). In the Sonics first year sales beat out every car in it's sub-compact class.Report it
