Review
Love the price I paid for the truck. Love the style/looks. Dont like the paint, scratches way too easily. Dont like gas mileage, only 13 on freeway and 10 around town, but mine does have 32 inch mud tires. Was 15 on highway with stock tires and it is a big truck, its going to get poor mileage. Other than that, I really like it..
Favorite Features
Transmission tow mode.
Suggested Improvements
More power, needs about 350hp. Better paint.

Still wondering if '07 is better
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LT1 4dr Extended Cab 4WD SB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
This truck is is a blast to drive around, an excellent work and tow vehicle. The gas mileage however, will take a bit to get used to. The best this truck will average is about 12-13 mpg, and that is unloaded and using the gas pedal with a light foot. However, this is a truck that was designed to work and perform. If you like to off-road be careful. Although it may look capable looks can be deceiving. The rear end differential has a very low clearance height to the ground. Any kind of rutted off-road will pose a challenge if there are any obstacles on it like small rocks or stumps. Even at the beach you will hear some awfull scraping and thumps. Bad fit and finish!! didn't notice until at home.
Favorite Features
Excellent power and towing, comfortable and quiet ride, low growl exhaust note, great gauge package
Suggested Improvements
Better fit on body panels. Hood and fender gaps are awfull. Doors on extended cab don't line up with front doors. Better gas mpg, better off road package(better skid plates and tire package)Improve turning radius, get rid of the clunking steering column and longer lasting rear disc brakes.

Great Truck

2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab 4WD LB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
Good power (no problems keeping up with traffic)... Decent mileage (around 14.5 - 15.5 mpg's) ... Reasonably comfortable for a heavy hauler ... Definitely love the manual trans (use 1st gear for first 500 miles ... after that use only when towing). Additionally, I like the styling, though Dodge and Ford look good also. In my opinion, you cant go wrong with any of the big 3's 2500 series trucks ... Test drive em all and decide which one you think you look best in. Suggested options are locking diff, sliding rear window, snow plow prep (gives more powerful alternator), on/off road tires, towing pkg, and extra battery (not for starting but any accessories). Hope this helps some folks
Favorite Features
Best in class payload, ride height, power and of course the NV4500 5 speed trans ... Its an older trans that can take a beating (besides which, 6 forward gears is too many) ...
Suggested Improvements
Get rid of cheap 40/20/40 seat in work truck ... Middle section doesnt fold down, noone can sit on it (no matter how small)

Solid, well-built truck

Shopped Ford, Dodge, but Chevy was the best value. This thing will pull your house down. The 4auto shifts smoothly and solidly. The motor growls with plenty of low-end torque. Tons of room in the back for kids, etc. Gas mileage around 14..better than Ford or Dodge. Great work truck.
Favorite Features
Get the LT2 package. lots of goodies. Power from the 6.0. Tranny is smooth. Plenty of room. Gas mileage not bad. New camper mirrors.
Suggested Improvements
Nothing

06 2500HD
Vehicle
2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Work Truck 2dr Regular Cab 4WD LB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
For the price the sub-par interior quality is acceptable. The 6-liter has good power as long as the RPM's are kept up. The transmission is a bit hard to cram into reverse or first and shifting can be a bit notchy at times, reminding me of the 30-year-old pick up I owned in high school. Paint quality is poor with a fairly noticeable orange peal appearance. A major up is a comfortable 3-piece bench seat that feels more like a bucket. Over all for about 21k it will do most work thrown at it.
Favorite Features
Good power for small displacement engine and fairly good mileage as well, both aspects seem much better than my other 2002 2500HD WT
Suggested Improvements
Smooth the transmission out, and give the interior components a more substantial feel

Hard to get a better pickup than this. I haul a fifth wheel trailer and now have 67000 miles on the truck. My trailer is 37 feet Alpinelite. My only problem with the truck is the turning radius. It takes a country mile to turn it around. I am not happy with the extended service and some of the dealerships in the lower "48".
Favorite Features
My power train is as good and reliable as any that I have seen in the past. I can and do feel comfortable in my rig.
Suggested Improvements
Better tires by the manufacturer. Better service by dealers.
2nd time, shame on me

Cannot say enough about the power of the 6.6 Duramax, handles grades up and down quite well. The seats are very comfortable, both front and rear; with three kids, it had to be. Not nearly as impressed with the finish as this is the second new GM/Chevy product I have owned in the past 12 years and both were of far less quality finish than the competition. Fortunately for GM/Chevy, it was the heart, not the looks, Shame on GM/Chevy for their lack of quality control on the exterior finish.
Favorite Features
The Duramax is transparent to everyone except the driver (lots of power), it is quite quiet which I like as compared to an older diesel I have. The entertainment system and Bose Stereo coupled with the sunroof makes for a fun truck to drive with the kids.
Suggested Improvements
Chevy could do a lot to take a look at their quality control. We're quite disappointed with the finish. A little hard to notice while at the dealer, once home a few items stood out like a sore thumb and are not easily fixed, i.e., fit & finish of the drivers side passenger door. Looks like bad body work.
