Duramax
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4dr Crew Cab LS 4WD SB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
I have very much enjoyed my truck. It has been great in the snow and driving in the mountains of the western U.S. It had no trouble pulling a 27 foot trailer through the mountains of Wyoming. Good brakes and good handling. My wife fights with me over who gets to drive it.
Favorite Features
The Duramax has a lot of power. I love the Allison transmission. Leather seating for six is a big bonus. I like the adjustability of the drivers seat and steering wheel. My 4'10" 15 year old can adjust the seat enough to drive and then I can quickly change it for my 5'8" body.
Suggested Improvements
I can get 15.5 mpg in town, 20 mpg in rush hour traffic, 16.7 mpg at 75mph. An extra gear for freeway driving would be nice.

'05 GMC
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4dr Extended Cab 4WD SB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
Great truck, '05 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax is the king of diesels. Wish it had bigger wheels/tires(17-18"), and the interior stinks if trying to sleep. Front seats do not recline all the way, very uncomforable to sleep in. I drive long distances through the night at times and know I cant sleep in this truck. Only mechanical drawback/weak link is the Allison transmission. It is weak and needs more beef, especially in the torque converter and C3/C4 clutchs.
Favorite Features
I like the stereo and the design of the stock wheels, just wish they were a little bigger.
Suggested Improvements
Allison transmission is weak! Needs a better torque converter and clutch. Block needs studs instead of head bolts. Driver's side exhaust manifold is crimped/choked down for no reason. Better seats that recline all the way.

Good Truck
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4dr Crew Cab LT 4WD LB (6.0L 8cyl 4A)
Review
I bought this truck to pull a camp trailer. It is a 6.0 turbo diesel and I get about 15 mpg pulling an 8000 pound trailer. It is strong and fast for a large truck. Quarter mile is under 12 seconds. The only bad thing about this truck is a low ground clearance, so I plan on putting a lift for higher clearance, and also a Banks big hoss power package on it for more power.
Favorite Features
All things about this truck are great. Better than any truck I have ever owned
Suggested Improvements
I plan on putting mud flaps, window visors, a 6 or 7.5 inch suspension lift, bigger tires, and a Banks big hoss bundle power upgrade

Great truck
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4dr Extended Cab LS Rwd SB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
I bought this truck to tow my fifth wheel camper. It does an excellent job in towing. I can cruise the highway at 70 mph with no problem and get about 10mpg. Going back and forth to work I get about 15.5mpg. This isn't 4wheel drive , thats why I get such good mileage, but I never got stuck in the winter and I live in Buffalo NY. I have 20K miles on it and the only problem I've had is with the blower switch in the #1 position. This truck is a real eye catcher and little kids have told me it's a cool. All in all I'm very pleased with this truck and would take it over a foreign one any day!
Favorite Features
High ride profile, looks mean. Great ride, handling, trailering. Very comfortable interior.
Suggested Improvements
I wish it came with bigger tires, they look a little small.

After 17 months of owning this truck and 30,000 miles of hard towing ruff winter driving, I love this truck. Not one thing has gone wrong, only routine maintance done. This truck drives the same as it did 17 months ago. Big and roomy for the kids we take this truck on all of our family outings, it's like driving a luxury car. I get about 18 miles per gallon going 65/75 on the hihgway and about 15 in the city. Hauling I get about 14MPG fully loaded of 12,000lbs towing. Cannot complain. I also used Biodiesel in my truck and got great gas mileage. almost 20MPG on highway. Plus the engine ran better. Just can not find it where I live. Buy this truck.
Favorite Features
Allison transmission by far is the best.
Suggested Improvements
Better tires. The ones that come with the truck stink. Need a new set after 22,000 miles. Going with a taller and wider tire. 265/75/R16 this should solve my problems with the tires going bald in a year while towing.

Comfortable & reliable

Review
As with my previous Silverado, this vehicle has proved to be reliable, and comfortable. It is used to pull a utility trailer, & has done so, with no problem. OnStar is great for peace of mind & XM for entertainment on the long hauls.

I want my 2001 Back
Vehicle

To say that I am very dissatisifed with my 2005 is an understatement. The Duramax is 1/3 more thirsty than my 2001. The Allison transmission has now started to intermittantly refuse to allow the engine to rev past 2000 RPM or it cuts itself out. The driver's side window is continuing to leak air. The air leak on the passenger side has us traveling with a blanket if the outside temps drop below 20 degrees. When I get the Allison to shift properly ... I'm heading to my local Ford dealership!
Favorite Features
The ride of the Chevy is its only saving grace.

Great D-Max

Review
Even before any addons this truck got good highway mileage(17/19)at 65/70. With the addition of K&N, Superchip, and 4"turbo/back, this truck hauls AND gets great mileage (19/22) at 65/70 mph..Combined city\highway is an easy 17mpg..Pulling a 16000# 5th wheel before mods, mpg was 10/12, but now I can hardly wait to see what the mileage will be. Also a very roomy, quiet, and comfortable truck on long trips. The BOSE sound, and XM radio make long hours on the road even more enjoyable. I drive a Ford 4x4 company truck, and there is NO comparrison.
Favorite Features
Tight handeling and manuverability. A great ride, and plenty of power.
Suggested Improvements
Intigrated trailer brake controller, auto darkening trailer mirrors, electric radiator fans, better computer programers. If superchip can do it,why can't G.M.? Also, a 4' stock header back system like Dodge(ouch).

2005 Chev Duramax
Vehicle
2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD 4dr Crew Cab LS 4WD SB (6.0L 8cyl 5M)
Review
Having driven 1/2 tons for several years this is my first HD and I consider a "real truck". Very comfortable for the family and we don't even notice the sound of the Duramax listening to XM on my bose speakers. Love towing our 5th. wheel and recently did a long vacation trip through 4 states. Kind of reassuring having been approached many times by "old timers" just to tell me what an awesome tow vehicle we have. Have not had any problems in the first year and look for many more to come. (former Dodge truck owner).
Favorite Features
If you're looking for a tow vehicle this has plenty of power and the best transmission on the market. Much more quite than the dodge or ford diesel. Comfortable interior (Highly recommend the leather), looks great and fun to drive.
Suggested Improvements
Fuel MPG. I'm sure you heard stories about what good fuel mileage can be expected w/diesel eng. "NOT TRUE". It's sure better than a gas engine but let the truth be known. With my stock Durmx/Allison trans I get 19 mpg freeway, 16 mpg city, 12.5 towing 10K 5th. wheel. Not bad at all.
